Article Abstract

In this study, polymeric ionic liquids (PILs) modified magnetic nanoparticles were used to extract four aflatoxins (AFs) from wheat samples, providing a convenient and cost-effective sample preparation technique for AFs detection in the complex food matrix. The extraction parameters were optimized in terms of the amount of adsorbent, adsorption time, type and volume of desorption solvent, desorption time, and salt addition. The results showed that the proposed method had high sensitivity, good repeatability, and wide linear range. The limits of detection (S/N=3) of four AFs were 0.05-0.41 μg kg. The accuracy was also evaluated using spiked wheat samples and acceptable relative recovery of four AFs at different fortification levels were obtained, ranging from 50.3 %-110.4 %. It was indicated that both the anion species and the alkyl chain length of cation in PILs significantly affected the extraction efficiency. Meanwhile, multiple interactions, including hydrogen bonding, π-π and p-π, and hydrophobic interactions between the adsorbent and the AFs, were responsible for the effective extraction.

Secondary metabolites are important bioactive compounds for diet and medicine. This study optimizes the extraction of hydroethanolic herbal extracts using an EDGE (Energized Dispersive Guided Extraction) system, evaluates their antioxidant capacity, and analyzes correlations among antioxidant activity, total phenolic content, and individual compounds. A Doehlert matrix design was used to optimize extraction, having temperature and time as independent variables, and total phenolic content (mg GAE/g) as the response, quantified via the Folin-Ciocalteu method.

A rapid and specific liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method with a wide linear range was developed and validated for the simultaneous quantification of Vitamin K1 (VK1) trans- and cis- isomers in human plasma. Bovine serum albumin solution (15%) served as a surrogate matrix for preparing the calibrators to establish the quantitative curves. After liquid-liquid extraction, VK1 trans- and cis- isomers in plasma samples were separated on a ChromCore C30 column (15 cm × 4.

Background: Postgraduate education is embracing journal clubs (JCs), which provide a platform for members to critically evaluate research articles and extract evidence-based nursing practice. The implementation of JCs by postgraduate nurses, especially in varied educational contexts such as Egypt, remains underexplored. This study aimed to explore and gain valuable insights into the professional experiences of implementing JCs among postgraduate nursing students in Egypt.

Synthetic dyes, such as Congo red (CR), pose serious threats to human health and aquatic ecosystems because of their carcinogenicity and resistance to degradation, necessitating the development of efficient and eco-friendly remediation strategies. In this study, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized via a green method using Ocimum sanctum (holy basil) leaf extract and applied for CR dye removal from aqueous solutions. The adsorption process was optimized using response surface methodology (RSM) based on Box-Behnken design (BBD), evaluating the influence of key parameters including pH, AgNP dosage, initial dye concentration, contact time, and temperature.

Salmonella Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) is one of the most common food-borne diseases, highlighted as the top food-borne bacterial pathogen in the world with a low infectious dose (1 CFU) and high mortality rate. It is commonly associated with numerous foods such as dairy products, protein sources (multiple types of meat, poultry, and eggs), and bakery products.
