In animals, a trade-off exists between reproduction and growth, which are the most fundamental traits. Males and females exhibit profound differences in reproduction and growth in fish species. However, the precise molecular mechanism governing this phenomenon is still not clear. Here, we uncovered that chr23-miR-200s and knockout specifically caused an impairment in reproduction and an increase in body growth in female and male zebrafish, respectively. Chr23-miR-200s and Dmrt1 directly regulate the gene by targeting its 3'UTR and promoter. The loss of completely abolished the elevated growth performance in chr23-miR-200s-KO or zebrafish. Moreover, the transgenic zebrafish had significantly lower body length and body weight than the control males, accompanied by a significant reduction in expression in the liver of transgenic fish. In summary, our study proposes a regulatory model elucidating the roles of chr23-miR-200s and Dmrt1 in controlling the sexually dimorphic trade-off between reproduction and growth.

Aging Biomarker Consortium (ABC), Beijing, China.
The global surge in the population of people 60 years and older, including that in China, challenges healthcare systems with rising age-related diseases. To address this demographic change, the Aging Biomarker Consortium (ABC) has launched the X-Age Project to develop a comprehensive aging evaluation system tailored to the Chinese population. Our goal is to identify robust biomarkers and construct composite aging clocks that capture biological age, defined as an individual's physiological and molecular state, across diverse Chinese cohorts.

Auxins are involved in the regulation of fruit set and development; however, the role of IAA is unclear in pea (Pisum sativum) since the endogenous auxin 4-Cl-IAA appears to be the auxin stimulating ovary (pericarp) growth. To further understand the role of auxins during fruit development, auxin localization, quantitation, transport, and gene expression activity were assessed in this model legume species. IAA levels and auxin activity (DR5::β-Glucuronidase [GUS] staining and enzyme activity) were substantially reduced in the pericarp vascular tissues, pedicels, and peduncles of fruit upon seed removal, reflecting auxin transport streams derived from the seeds through these tissues.

The mammary gland, which primarily develops postnatally, undergoes significant changes during pregnancy and lactation to facilitate milk production. Through the generation and analysis of 480 transcriptomes, we provide the most detailed allelic expression map of the mammary gland, cataloguing cell-type-specific expression from ex-vivo purified cell populations over 10 developmental stages, enabling comparative analysis. The work identifies genes involved in the mammary gland cycle, parental-origin-specific and genetic background-specific expression at cellular and temporal resolution, genes associated with human lactation disorders and breast cancer.

Incubation temperature affects both growth and energy metabolism in birds after hatching. Changes in cellular mechanisms, including mitochondrial function, are a likely but unexplored explanation for these effects. To test whether temperature-dependent changes to mitochondria may link embryonic development to the post-natal phenotype, we incubated Japanese quail eggs at constant low (36.

Plastics degradation generates microplastics (MPs), posing a risk to soil function and organisms. Currently, the impact of MPs derived from different polymers remains poorly understood. In this study, the effects of three polymers (polypropylene (PP), polylactic acid (PLA), and polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT)) were investigated at environmentally relevant levels (0, 0.
