Amplification of asymmetry in complex supramolecular/polymer system results from the delicate interplay of chiral and achiral structures. Here, a novel approach to the racemic sergeants and soldiers (S&S) effect, using enantiomeric sergeants (Sgt.) and achiral soldiers (Sold.), achieves unique precise control over both intensity and sign of global chirality. Chiroptical assemblies of different dimensions in racemic S&S copolymers can be constructed in situ via polymerization-induced chiral self-assembly (PICSA). We systemically investigated chiral communication pathways between chiral-chiral, chiral-achiral, and two oppositely configured azobenzene (Azo) segments, which robustly affect the global chiroptical activity of the racemic S&S assemblies. Chain length-, Sgt./Sold. ratios-, and temperature-dependent CD/UV/Vis, small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy (POM) results provided insights into the kinetics for chiroptical inversions. LC phase transitions, the helical preferences of the Sgt. and Sold. units, and the stability of the "chiral core" allow racemic S&S copolymer assemblies to exhibit chiral conflict between heterochiral blocks in an enantioselective fashion.

Agarwood trees (Aquilaria spp.) are widely cultivated in tropical Asia for their valuable resin. The defoliator moth Heortia vitessoides Moore (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) is a devastating pest that significantly limits the productivity of agarwood plantations.

A set of small molecules containing an unusual sp-rich heterobicyclic scaffold were prepared and evaluated in vitro for their ability to increase GLP-1 secretion in STC-1 cells and to protect SH-SY5Y cells from acute and chronic damage induced by glucose and methylglyoxal, respectively. The results obtained showed that some compounds, especially those containing an electron-withdrawing and/or lipophilic group at the meta position of the aryl moiety present at position 9, are effective non-covalent TRPA1 agonists. The lead compound so far individuated (compound 4b) was also prepared by asymmetric synthesis in both enantiomeric forms.

Chiral metal halide perovskites (CMHPs) are a promising class of chiroptical materials with significant potential applications in chiral-optoelectronic and chiral-spintronic devices. However, their chirality induction generally stems from the incorporation of chiral ligands, which constitutes compositional diversity and functional versatility. Herein, we report a significant chiral expression resulting from two distinct mechanisms: chirality transfer induced by chiral organic cations and mirror symmetry breaking driven by stereochemically active lone pairs, both contributing to controlled chirality induction.

A rational chiral covalent organic framework (CCOF) synthesis strategy is essential to unlock their potential applications. In this work, a new method was developed for the synthesis of crystalline CCOFs, R/S-PPI-2-COF (6 space group), which were transformed from the achiral PI-2-COF. To demonstrate the generality of the synthetic strategy, two additional reported achiral COFs (PI-3-COF and COF) were also converted into CCOFs.

We describe the preparation, conformational dynamics, and stereoselective recognition characteristics of water-soluble pillar[6]arenes pS-2 and pR-2. These two novel and diastereomeric cavitands comprise a 2,5-bis(ethoxy)pillar[6]arene core with one of six phenylene ring conjugated to two hexaanionic dendrons. Each dendron includes an (S)-glutamic acid amidated with two tris-carboxylic Behera's amines.
