The rational design of non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) with both high crystallinity and photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) is of crucial importance for achieving high-efficiency and low-energy-loss organic solar cells (OSCs). However, increasing the crystallinity of an NFA tends to decrease its PLQY, which results in a high non-radiative energy loss in OSCs. Here we demonstrate that the crystallinity and PLQY of NFAs can be fine-tuned by asymmetrically adapting the branching position of alkyl chains on the thiophene unit of the L8-BO acceptor. It was found that L8-BO-C, with 2-butyloctyl on one side and 4-butyldecyl on the other side, can simultaneously achieve high crystallinity and PLQY. A high efficiency of 20.42% (certified as 20.1%) with an open-circuit voltage of 0.894 V and a fill factor of 81.6% is achieved for the single-junction OSC. This work reveals how important the strategy of shifting the alkyl chain branching position is in developing high-performance NFAs for efficient OSCs.

Promoter-assisted chemical vapor deposition (CVD) has emerged as a robust strategy for the low-temperature synthesis of diverse transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). In these processes, promoter-induced intermediates facilitate specific reaction pathways, enabling controlled growth via vapor-solid-solid (VSS) or vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) modes. While previous studies have primarily focused on transition metal precursors, growth pathways involving engineered chalcogen-based intermediates remain underexplored due to their volatility and low melting points.

In this study, we report the synthesis of single-crystalline h-BN on Ni(111) under ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions using hexamethylborazine (HMB) as a nonclassical precursor. The novel use of HMB facilitates the diffusion of methyl groups into the bulk of Ni(111), playing a critical role in the achievement of high-quality crystalline h-BN layers. The synthesis is performed on a 2 mm-thick Ni(111) single crystal and on a 2-μm-thick Ni(111) thin film on sapphire to evaluate the feasibility of synthesizing h-BN on industrially relevant substrates.

Nanoparticles in their pure colloidal form synthesized by laser-assisted processes such as laser ablation/fragmentation/irradiation/melting in liquids have attained much interest from the scientific community because of their specialties like facile synthesis, ultra-high purity, biocompatibility, colloidal stability in addition to other benefits like tunable size and morphology, crystalline phases, new compounds and alloys, and defect engineering. These nanocolloids are useful for fabricating different devices mainly with applications in optoelectronics, catalysis, sensors, photodetectors, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates, and solar cells. In this review article, we describe different methods of nanocolloidal synthesis using laser-assisted processes and corresponding thin film fabrication methods, particularly those utilized for device fabrication and characterization.

Lithium metavanadate (LiVO) is a material of growing interest due to its monoclinic 2/ structure, which supports efficient lithium-ion diffusion through one-dimensional channels. This study presents a detailed structural, electrical, and dielectric characterization of LiVO synthesized a solid-state reaction, employing X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and impedance/dielectric spectroscopy across a temperature range of 473-673 K and frequency range of 10 Hz to 1 MHz. XRD and Rietveld refinement confirmed high crystallinity and single-phase purity with lattice parameters = 10.

The multi-component deep eutectic solvents (DES) have emerged as indispensable tools in the lignocellulosic pretreatment process, facilitating the efficient biotransformation of biomass sugars into valuable products. In this investigation, FeCl was ingeniously incorporated to amplify the pretreatment efficacy of a DES synthesized from cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and lactic acid (LA), specifically targeting poplar sawdust (PS). Remarkably, under the meticulously optimized molar ratio of 1: 4:1, this innovative ternary DES achieved an unprecedented removal of 68.
