Article Abstract

The intestine features a two-front nutrient supply environment, comprising an enteral side enriched with microbial and dietary metabolites and a serosal side supplied by systemic nutrients, collectively supporting intestinal and systemic homeostasis, but there is currently no optimal approach for extracting and assessing the local intestinal microenvironment. Here, we present a protocol for constructing a nutrient supply model in mice and extracting gut interstitial fluid (GIF) via centrifugation. This model and the extracted GIF are suitable for downstream analyses. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Zhang et al..

Optimization of Nitrogen Application and Root Biomass Modulates 2-Acetyl-1-Pyrroline Biosynthesis in Fragrant Rice.

The rice root system mediates nutrient uptake while adapting to tillage, management, and environmental changes. While optimized nitrogen (N) supply is known to enhance 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2-AP) biosynthesis in fragrant rice, the underlying mechanisms linking nitrogen availability, root development, and their combined effects on physiological processes and aroma formation remain unclear. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a pot experiment employing two fragrant rice cultivars (Huahangxiangyinzhen and Qingxiangyou19xiang) under three nitrogen regimes (0, 1.

This study investigates high-light-tolerant Nannochloropsis oceanica Rose Bengal mutants (RB2 and RB113) for bioremediation of shrimp aquaculture wastewater (SWW) under increased temperature and light, simulating future climate change. Cultivations were performed under 250 μmol photons m·s with flue gas CO₂ supply. At 18 °C, RB mutants and wild-type (WT) strain showed similar growth.

Layer-dependent and delayed responses of disinfection by-product precursors to rainfall events in a stratified deepwater reservoir.

Rainfall events significantly increase dissolved organic matter (DOM) and disinfection by-product (DBP) precursors in the reservoir, threatening water supply security. However, the vertical variations and ecological drivers of DBP precursors in the deepwater stratified reservoir during rainfall events remain poorly understood. This study investigated DOM composition, DBP precursors, nutrients, metals, and algae in the Sanhekou Reservoir under stormwater influence.

Mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) have been identified as a promising therapeutic option for osteoarthritis, graft vs. host disease and cardiovascular diseases, among others. For widespread application of these therapies, robust and scaled manufacturing processes are required that reliably yield high amounts of high quality MSCs.

Background: Adequate nutrition is essential for growth and development during infancy and early childhood; however, the healthfulness and cost of commercial infant and toddler food and beverage products (ITP) have not been documented in Canada.

Objective: This study assessed the nutritional quality and prices of ITP in the Canadian food supply.

Design: Using the Food Label Information and Price 2020 database, ITP intended for children < 4-years-old ( = 423) were examined for their energy and nutrient content (per 100 g or mL), the prevalence of products 'High in' nutrient(s)-of-concern (according to Canadian front-of-pack labelling thresholds), and their price (per 100 g or mL).
