Article Abstract

(K,Na)NbO-based ceramics are deemed among the most promising lead-free piezoelectric materials, though their overall piezoelectric performance still lags behind the mainstream lead-containing counterparts. Here, we achieve an ultrahigh piezoelectric charge coefficient d ∼ 807 pC·N, along with a high longitudinal electromechanical coupling factor (k ∼ 88%) and Curie temperature (T ∼ 245 °C) in the (K,Na)(NbSb)O-BiNaZrO-BiFeO (KNN-xSb) system through structural flexibility and grain orientation strategies. Phenomenological models, phase field simulations and high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy reveal that the structural flexibility originates from the high Coulomb force between K/Na ions and Sb ions in the KNN-xSb system, while the grain orientation promotes the displacement of B-site cations leveraging the engineered domain configuration. As a result of its excellent comprehensive piezoelectric properties, the textured KNN-5Sb/epoxy 1-3 piezoelectric composite is found to possess a broader bandwidth BW = 60% and higher amplitude output voltage than commercial PZT-5 and other KNN counterparts. These findings suggest that the textured KNN-5Sb ceramics could potentially replace current lead-based piezoceramics in transducer applications.

Progress and Future Challenges in Bionic Drag Reduction Research Inspired by Fish Skin Properties.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

September 2025

College of Metrology Measurement and Instrument, China Jiliang University, Hangzhou 310018, China.

During the long course of evolution, fish have developed complex skin structures to adapt to the dynamic aquatic environment. These skin features not only reflect optimal adaptation to the aquatic environment but also play a key role in effectively reducing fluid drag and improving swimming efficiency, to reveal the intrinsic connection between the complex skin structure of fish and drag reduction performance and to provide new design ideas for the drag reduction surface of underwater vehicles. Based on the different drag reduction characteristics of fish skin structures, this paper divides existing biomimetic drag reduction technologies into three categories: riblet drag reduction, flexible drag reduction, and composite drag reduction.

A novel structure of a piezoelectric stick-slip actuator is proposed, which is based on the moving posture of a monkey. The biomimetic monkey type of piezoelectric stick-slip actuator (BMPSSA) is designed to simulate the limbs and tail of a moving monkey. By using the pseudo-rigid body method, the deformation model of the compliant mechanism is established.
