Article Abstract

We detail the REACH radiometric system designed to enable measurements of the 21-cm neutral hydrogen line. Included is the radiometer architecture and end-to-end system simulations as well as a discussion of the challenges intrinsic to highly-calibratable system development. Following this, we share laboratory results based on the calculation of noise wave parameters utilising an over-constrained least squares approach. For five hours of integration on a custom-made source with comparable impedance to that of the antenna used in the field, we demonstrate a calibration RMSE of 80 mK. This paper therefore documents the state of the calibrator and data analysis in December 2022 in Cambridge before shipping to South Africa.

Objectives Background: Monocyte anisocytosis (monocyte distribution width [MDW]) has been previously validated to predict sepsis and outcome in patients presenting in the emergency department and mixed-population ICUs. Determining sepsis in a critically ill surgical/trauma population is often difficult due to concomitant inflammation and stress. We examined whether MDW could identify sepsis among patients admitted to a surgical/trauma ICU and predict clinical outcome.

Predicting carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae infections in pediatric liver transplant recipients.

World J Pediatr

September 2025

Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, No. 79 Qingchun Road, Hangzhou 310003, China.

Background: Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) infections can pose a significant risk following pediatric liver transplantations. This study aimed to identify risk factors for CRE infections and develop prediction models for pediatric recipients.

Methods: This study enrolled pediatric patients who underwent liver transplantation between 2017 and 2023.

Background: Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits for BP180-NC16A use different cutoff levels established for cutaneous bullous pemphigoid (BP). However, in oral mucous membrane pemphigoid (OMMP), circulating antibodies are reported to be less readily detectable than cutaneous BP and there is little evidence that these cut-off levels are suitable for OMMP. This study was performed to explore whether the available cutoff values of anti-BP180-NC16A ELISA used for cutaneous BP are equally effective when applied to OMMP or should benefit from an optimized cut-off value.

Objective: To wean respiratory support, preterm infants with severe respiratory failure are often administered systemic corticosteroids. We sought to evaluate if postnatal age or clinical characteristics predicted death or tracheostomy following systemic dexamethasone in evolving bronchopulmonary dysplasia.

Study Design: We performed a retrospective study of infants born at ≤ 30 weeks' gestational age cared for at a Level IV referral center from 2009 to 2019 who received a complete course of systemic dexamethasone beyond 4 weeks of age for the indication of preventing death and/or liberating from positive pressure ventilation.

Concurrent recording of electroencephalogram (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) signals reveals cross-scale neurovascular dynamics crucial for explaining fundamental linkages between function and behaviors. However, MRI scanners generate artifacts for EEG detection. Despite existing denoising methods, cabled connections to EEG receivers are susceptible to environmental fluctuations inside MRI scanners, creating baseline drifts that complicate EEG signal retrieval from the noisy background.
