Article Abstract

The present study was to explore relationship between serum lipid profiles and the polymorphism of rs324420 at fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) gene ( rs324420) and its confounders in Chinese adolescents. Serum lipids, glucose, and insulin levels were assessed using routine methods in a cohort of 708 high school students. Dietary intake was investigated by 3-day diet records, and intakes of protein, fat, and carbohydrate were calculated. rs324420 was genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism technique and confirmed through DNA sequencing. In the whole study population, increased HDL-C levels were observed in rs324420 CC homozygotes than those in A allele carriers. Body mass index (BMI), gender, intake of fat, and rs324420 were predictive factors of HDL-C levels in the whole study population. Moreover, BMI and intake of fat were predictors of HDL-C levels in male rs324420 A allele carriers and female CC homozygotes, but only BMI was predictor of HDL-C in female A allele carriers and male CC homozygotes. These results demonstrate that there are mutual effects of dietary fat with gender, BMI, and rs324420 on HDL-C levels, which pave a novel way to explore the heterogeneous relationship of serum lipid profiles with diets or rs324420 and provide a new perspective of precision dietary interventions of dyslipidemia, especially in adolescents.

Introduction: Cigarette smoking is a well-recognized independent risk factor for numerous cardiovascular disorders and contributes to the increasing morbidity and mortality associated with chronic heart diseases (CHD). This study aimed to evaluate how cigarette smoking affects lipid metabolism and inflammatory processes, along with other related mechanisms, in order to better understand the potential cardiovascular risks faced by smokers.

Objectives: To evaluate and compare the serum lipid profile and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels between cigarette smokers and non-smokers.

Objective: Coronary artery calcification (CAC) and osteoporosis are common age-related conditions that may share underlying mechanisms such as inflammation and lipid dysregulation. Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] has been suggested as a potential contributor to both processes. This study aims to investigate the relationship between CAC, bone mineral density (BMD), and Lp(a) levels in a statin-naive elderly population.

Background: Antipsychotics are associated with side effects like weight gain, obesity, and menstrual disorders in Women, which can reduce treatment compliance and increase cardiovascular, metabolic risks, dementia, and other chronic diseases, as well as increase mortality, and reduce the quality of life in patients. Data on these effects in Vietnam are limited. This study evaluated changes in body weight, BMI, menstrual cycle, and metabolic syndrome components among female schizophrenic inpatients treated with antipsychotics.

Objectives: In recent years, the role of remnant cholesterol (RC) in the development and progression of cardiovascular diseases has gained increasing attention. However, evidence on the association between RC and subclinical atherosclerosis is limited. This study aims to examine the relationship between RC and atherosclerotic plaques in single and multiple vascular territories.

Background: Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) is a significant contributor to cardiac mortality in Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) patients. Inflammatory processes and oxidative stress play pivotal roles in the advancement of Pulmonary Hypertension (PH). The Monocyte-to-High-- Density-Lipoprotein Cholesterol Ratio (MHR), a newly identified biomarker indicative of inflammatory and oxidative stress, has not been extensively researched in the context of pulmonary hypertension, especially within the scope of dilated cardiomyopathy.
