Effective and accessible oral care strategies, like the use of a multi-benefit, antimicrobial toothpaste, are a key tool in preventive public health. For over 30 years, Colgate Total toothpastes have represented a gold standard in multi-benefit toothpastes to help fight bacteria and provide whole-mouth care. This review introduces the next generation of Colgate's research and development featuring stannous fluoride (SnF2) stabilized by nitrate and phosphates. The uniqueness of this engine is detailed through a review of SnF2 oral benefits, the historic challenges associated with SnF2 toothpastes, and the advantages that this chemistry can bring to patients seeking multi-benefit oral care. With this novel technology, a new balance in efficacy, stability, and streamlined design enables flexible formulation and customized user experiences inspired by key therapeutic areas.

The 2021-eruption of Tajogaite (La Palma, Canary Islands) was associated with the formation of large amounts of respirable PM aerosols (smaller than 10 μm) that triggered air quality crisis and lockdowns for ∼35,000 persons. This study aims to quantify the contribution of the aerosol formation mechanisms to the volcanic PM concentrations. During the eruption and post-eruption, we monitored trace gases (SO, HF, HCl and NO), and the size distribution and chemical composition of falling-tephra and PM aerosols.

To explore strategies for further reducing aeration energy consumption in the simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) process, an SND reactor was constructed to treat low carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratio domestic wastewater under ultra-low dissolved oxygen (DO) conditions (DO < 0.05 mg·L⁻). The effects of hydraulic retention time (HRT) and C/N ratio on nitrogen removal performance were systematically evaluated, and batch experiments were conducted to determine nitrification and denitrification rates.

To analyse the issues of high muzzle flame intensity and the easy migration of insensitive agents in conventional insensitive propellants, this study synthesizes modified nitrocellulose grafted with carboxymethyl potassium groups by a two-step process, starting from the molecular structure of nitrocellulose (NC), the principal component of propellants. First, the denitration reaction was performed to reduce part of the nitrate ester groups on the surface of NC to hydroxyl groups, followed by an etherification reaction to achieve directional grafting of carboxymethyl potassium groups. Compared with conventional flame retardant/insensitive systems based on nitrogen, phosphorus, or DBP (dibutyl phthalate), potassium-based functional groups exhibit superior thermal stability and environmental friendliness.

Glacial lakes play a vital role as indicators of global climate change and regional environmental responses. Eukaryotic planktonic microorganisms, pivotal in driving biogeochemical cycling of nutrients within these ecosystems, are crucial for preserving stability and ecological function of glacial lake environments. Nevertheless, the spatial and temporal dynamics, along with the mechanisms responsible for sustaining eukaryotic planktonic microbial communities in glacial lakes, especially during the glacier retreat and lake formation, are still largely uncharted.

Black morel (Morchella sextelata) is widely regarded as a post-fire mushroom because of its prolific fruiting in post-fire forest soils enriched with charcoal. Intriguingly, artificial cultivation of M. sextelata often incorporates biochar as a soil amendment to enhance yield, although the underlying physicochemical and ecological mechanisms remain unclear.
