The security and confidentiality of information are crucial in contemporary communication systems. In this work, we propose a physical layer security-enhanced optical communication scheme based on dual-level protection with chaos masking (CMS) and chaotic hardware encryption. The integration of CMS and chaotic hardware encryption contributes to enhancing the security of the system. Different uncorrelated chaos generated from a single Fabry-Perot (FP) laser are employed to independently mask and encrypt the confidential signals for multiple channels in a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system. Thanks to the CMS and temporal intensity scrambling, the signals are encrypted into a noise-like signal to against direct demasking or decryption attacks. Compared to individual CMS or encrypting the signals using stand-alone dispersion components, numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme significantly enhances communication security. The decrypted bit error rate (BER) for 10 Gb/s data in each channel at the legitimate receiver is lower than the hard decision forward error correction threshold (HD-FEC) of 3.8 × 10 for a proof-of-principle demonstration. This approach enables multi-path parallel and independent security-enhanced chaotic optical communication, offering a promising solution for high-capacity secure optical communication.

Liquid-phase suspension array technology (SAT), based on optically encoded microspheres, overcomes limitations of traditional enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and chemiluminescence detection techniques via meeting high-throughput and multiplexing demands in biosensing and diagnosis. It demonstrates significant advantages in terms of accuracy, speed, sensitivity, and multiplex detection capabilities, and has become an emerging research hotspot in the field of luminescent immunodiagnostics. With rapid advancement of nanotechnology and multi-functional nanomaterials, liquid-phase suspension array chips have achieved remarkable progresses in multiplex analysis capacity, encoding capacity, encoding efficiency, detection sensitivity, decoding methods, and application fields.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) unfolds over the first two years of life through complex interactions among developmental systems. Attention and autonomic nervous system (ANS) regulation represent foundational processes critical for adaptive engagement with the environment. Disruptions in these systems during early infancy may initiate developmental cascades that contribute to core ASD features, including social-communication challenges and restricted and repetitive behaviors, as well as the vast heterogeneity found within ASD.

Optical superposition natural compound eyes (OSNCEs) allow circadian insects to thrive in varying light conditions thanks to their unique anatomical structures. This provides a blueprint for optical superposition artificial compound eyes (OSACEs) that can adapt to different illumination intensities. However, OSACEs have received limited research attention until recently, with most studies focusing on apposition compound eyes that operate only in bright light.

Gap junctions are essential channels of communication between cells including neurons in the central nervous system. These channels coordinate cell metabolic and electrical functions including such crucial ones for maintaining homeostasis as cell proliferation, differentiation, survival, and apoptosis. They create narrow passageways that allow rapid exchange of small molecules, ions, and secondary messengers between neighboring cells including the retina and optic nerve.
