Background: Increasing evidence suggests a potential role of the gut microbiota in Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the relationship between the gut microbiome (GM) and PD dementia (PDD) remains debated, with their causal effects and underlying mechanisms not yet fully understood.
Methods: Utilizing data from large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWASs), this study applied bidirectional and mediating Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the causal relationship and underlying mechanisms between the GM and PDD.

Background: The H5N1 avian influenza A virus represents a serious threat to both animal and human health, with the potential to escalate into a global pandemic. Effective monitoring of social media during H5N1 avian influenza outbreaks could potentially offer critical insights to guide public health strategies. Social media platforms like Reddit, with their diverse and region-specific communities, provide a rich source of data that can reveal collective attitudes, concerns, and behavioral trends in real time.

Background: Monosomy 45,X is commonly associated with congenital heart defects, particularly coarctation of the aorta (CoA). In this case, the patient developed respiratory distress due to hemodynamic instability from a large bidirectional patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) shunt and systemic hypoperfusion secondary to CoA, which complicated diagnosis and management.
Case Presentation: We report a 34-week premature female neonate weighing 1.

Symptoms of sickle cell disease (SCD) may be worsened by environmental factors. Although outdoor air pollution has been proposed as a potential trigger, the specific role of carbon monoxide (CO) among traffic-related pollutants, remains understudied in those with SCD. Based on South Carolina hospital encounter records (2002-2019) for SCD patients, we estimated daily 8-hour maximum outdoor CO concentrations at patients' residential zip codes using a newly-developed spatio-temporal model.

Background: Giant cell arteritis (GCA) has possible links to environmental factors such as air pollution.
Aims: We examined whether bushfire-related air pollution during the 2019-2020 Australian bushfires was associated with GCA incidence.
Methods: We retrospectively analysed 29 biopsy-confirmed cases (2018-2021) and matched onset dates with air pollutant levels.
