Thyroid Foramen: Prevalence and CT Morphology.

Acad Radiol

September 2025

Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, Gunma University Graduate School of Medicine, 3-39-22 Showa-machi, Maebashi, Gunma 371-8511, Japan (S.K., Y.K., Y.T.).

Rationale And Objectives: The thyroid foramen (TF) is a congenital anatomical variant of the thyroid cartilage, characterized by a small opening that may transmit neurovascular structures. Although benign, TF can be misinterpreted on imaging as a cartilage fracture or tumor invasion, and may pose a surgical risk if unrecognized. Despite these potential implications, TF remains under-recognized in routine radiological practice.

The spectacular success of training large models on extensive datasets highlights the potential of scaling up for exceptional performance. To deploy these models on edge devices, knowledge distillation (KD) is commonly used to create a compact model from a larger, pretrained teacher model. However, as models and datasets rapidly scale up in practical applications, it is crucial to consider the applicability of existing KD approaches originally designed for limited-capacity architectures and small-scale datasets.

Exploring the Potentials of Artificial Intelligence in Sepsis Management in the Intensive Care Unit.

Crit Care Res Pract

August 2025

Clinical Tuberculosis and Epidemiology Research Center, National Research Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases (NRITLD), Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

Sepsis remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly among critically ill patients in intensive care units (ICUs). Traditional diagnostic approaches, such as the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) and systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) criteria, often detect sepsis after significant organ dysfunction has occurred, limiting the potential for early intervention. In this study, we reviewed how artificial intelligence (AI)-driven methodologies, including machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and natural language processing (NLP), can aid physicians.

Ectoparasites of opossum's (Didelphimorphia: Didelphidae) captured in an urban complex in the Northern Brazilian amazon: new hosts and research on hemotropic bacteria.

Vet Res Commun

September 2025

Laboratório de Estudos Morfofisiológicos e Parasitários, Departamento de Ciências Biológicas e da Saúde, Universidade Federal do Amapá, Rodovia Josmar Chaves Pinto km 02k, s/n, Jardim Marco Zero, Macapá, CEP 68903-419, AP, Brazil.

Ticks and mites are important ectoparasites that affect animal and human health, directly causing harm and acting as vectors of pathogens. This study investigated the ectoparasites of synanthropic didelphids marsupials in northern Amazonia, Brazil, and screened them for hemotropic bacteria. The study was carried out in October 2022 in the metropolitan region of Macapá, Amapá State, Brazil, in vegetation remnants characterized by terra firme rainforest, alluvial forest, and savanna.
