Ectoparasites of opossum's (Didelphimorphia: Didelphidae) captured in an urban complex in the Northern Brazilian amazon: new hosts and research on hemotropic bacteria.

Ticks and mites are important ectoparasites that affect animal and human health, directly causing harm and acting as vectors of pathogens. This study investigated the ectoparasites of synanthropic didelphids marsupials in northern Amazonia, Brazil, and screened them for hemotropic bacteria. The study was carried out in October 2022 in the metropolitan region of Macapá, Amapá State, Brazil, in vegetation remnants characterized by terra firme rainforest, alluvial forest, and savanna.

A new Echimyidae (Mammalia, Rodentia) host of Amblyomma ovale Koch, 1844 in the eastern Brazilian Amazon, and a pathogen survey.

The genus Amblyomma has the largest number of tick species in the Neotropical region. Amblyomma ovale displays high ecological plasticity and can be found in different habitats and a variety of vertebrate hosts. Small mammals of the family Echimyidae have been identified as hosts for this species.

Hemogregarines in bufonid anurans from the Brazilian Amazon, with description a new species of (Apicomplexa: Lankesterellidae).

Here we describe, in an unprecedented way for the Brazilian Amazon, one Apicomplexa species infecting an anuran in Pará, Brazil, using an integrative approach that includes taxonomy, providing morphology, morphometrics, and molecular data. Samples were collected between February 2021 and February 2022 in the community of Curupira, municipality of Santarém, and in the industrial area of Marabá, both in Pará state. Specimens of and were captured by hand during the active search, and blood samples were collected by cardiac puncture.

Hemoparasite Analysis and Hematological Parameters of Four Freshwater Turtle Species (Testudines: Podocnemididae) from the Brazilian Amazon.

Methods: Sampling was performed at three sites in the Tapajós River mouth, Pará State, Brazil, and an aliquot of blood was collected from each turtle by post-occipital dorsal vein puncture. The aliquots were used for the determination of hematological parameters and for the study of hemoparasites in the blood samples.

Acanthocephalans are grouped in a single phylum, having a cosmopolitan distribution and subdivided into several genera. Although species of this parasite genus have birds and mammals as definitive hosts, they have been reported in amphibians and reptiles, and have been noted as paratenic hosts. In this study we report the record of Rhinella major as a new paratenic host for the Centrorhynchus sp.

Haemogregarine of Genus Dactylosoma (Adeleorina: Dactylosomatidae) in Species of Rhinella (Anura: Bufonidae) from the Brazilian Amazon.

Purpose: The present study aims to record the occurrence of a haemogregarine of the genus Dactylosoma in anurans in the eastern Brazilian Amazon.

Methods: Specimens of Leptodactylus macrosternum, Rhinella major, and Rhinella marina were collected in the municipality of Santarém, west of the State of Pará, in Brazil. Parasitic forms identified as Dactylosoma sp.

Morphometric and morphological characterization of Trypanosoma sp. (Kinetoplastea: Trypanosomatidae) hemoparasite of Crested Eagle, Morphnus guianensis in the Brazilian Amazon.

Morphnus guianensis is a species belonging to the Accipitridae family classified as almost threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Trypanosomes are flagellated protozoa that carry out their life cycle in the circulatory system of vertebrate hosts and within the digestive tract of invertebrate hosts. This study recorded Trypanosoma sp.

Host-parasite interaction between trematode, Clinostomum marginatum (Clinostomidae) and armoured catfish, Pterygoplichthys pardalis (Loricariidae) from Brazilian Amazon.

Clinostomid trematodes are only widely studied due to the ability to infect their metacercariae, which can affect amphibians, fish, snakes and occasionally mammals, with occasional records in humans. The Loricariids constitute the most diverse family of neotropical fish, with more than 800 registered species. They present a large heterogeneity of colors and body forms that reflect its high degree of ecological specialization and importance on economic aspects such as ornamentation and food.
