To evaluate the effects of preoperative topical demethasone on CC chemokine receptor 3 (CCR3) expression in human pterygium. Forty cases of patients with pterygium were divided into a dexamethasone group and a control group, which were treated topically with 3 g/L tobramycin + dexamethasone or 3 g/L tobramycin eye drops in the surgical eyes 2 weeks before surgery. Pterygium samples were collected from the subjects after pterygium excision surgery and processed for real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blot to examine CCR3 expression.

Aims: To estimate the tear film concentration of oral ciprofloxacin in patients with bacterial keratitis and evaluate its correlation with various clinical factors.
Method: This prospective intraindividual study enrolled 52 patients (104 eyes), each with unilateral, microbiologically confirmed bacterial keratitis (n=52 eyes); the fellow eye (n=52 eyes) served as the healthy control. The etiology of keratitis was confirmed by corneal scraping followed by detection of bacteria on Gram stain and bacterial culture.

Background: Infectious keratitis, commonly known as corneal infection, is a major cause of blindness, affecting approximately six million people globally and resulting in around two million cases of monocular blindness annually. The incidence varies widely worldwide, with higher rates in low- and middle-income countries due to various risk factors, including agricultural injuries and other accidental trauma, limited access to health care, and low levels of health literacy. Bacterial keratitis (BK) is the most prevalent form in higher-income regions, contributing to significant morbidity and healthcare burden.
