The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), recently expressed concern that "a shortage of investment in training, education, research, and infrastructure seen in many sectors and countries may compromise society's ability to properly manage radiation risks" and in 2022 announced the "Vancouver call for action to strengthen expertise in radiological protection worldwide". As representatives of organisations in formal relations with ICRP, we decided to promote this position paper to declare and emphasise that strengthening the expertise in radiological protection is a collective priority for all of us.

Background: With the rise of regenerative medicine and geroscience, translational research has shifted focus from lifespan to healthspan-years lived in good health. Applied to aesthetic medicine, the authors introduce the concept of "skinspan," to both describe the period during which skin maintains a youthful, healthy appearance, and additionally to serve as a tool for the cosmetic consult.
Aims: The aim of this comprehensive review is to illuminate "skinspan" as a framework for guiding long-term skin health.

Background: In recent years, there has been a steady increase in professionals engaged in radioactive work. The biological impacts of long-term exposure to low dose-rate radiation remain elusive, as there is a dearth of systematic research in this field.
Methods: BEAS-2B cells were used to establish a cell model with continuous passaging after radiation exposure, which was subsequently subjected to in vivo tumorigenesis assays and in vitro malignant phenotype experiments.

Combining radiotherapy with immunotherapy holds promise for treating solid tumors and metastases, but challenges persist, including hypoxia-induced immunosuppression and immune-related adverse events from off-target toxicity. To address this, we engineered an in-situ formed hydrogel by crosslinking hyaluronic acid and polyvinyl alcohol with a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive linker (3-aminophenylboronic acid). This hydrogel leverages radiotherapy-induced ROS within the tumor microenvironment to trigger localized release of nitric oxide (NO) and the toll-like receptor 7/8 (TLR7/8) agonist R848.

In the original paper entitled 'Epidemiologic contributions to radiation risk assessment' published in the Journal of Radiological Protection (vol 45, 2025, 031507), the last two lines of text in section 4 stated that "… the value of DREF based on the epidemiologic data appears to be in the range of 1-2, but the results do not permit a more precise estimate (table 1)." The sentence should instead have stated a range of 1-3, given the uncertainties in the risk estimates.

The development of drugs for Alzheimer's disease, which accounts for over half of all dementia cases, remains challenging. Amyloid β 1-42 (Aβ42) is widely recognized for its deposition in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease. Furthermore, Aβ42-induced cell toxicity likely plays a role in disease onset.
