Realizing durative dense, dendrite-free, and no by-product deposition configuration on Zn anodes is crucial to solving the short circuit and premature failure of batteries, which is simultaneously determined by the Zn interface chemistry, electro-reduction kinetics, mass transfer process, and their interaction. Herein, this work unmasks a domino effect of the β-alanine cations (Ala) within the hydrogel matrix, which effectively triggers the subsequent electrostatic shielding and beneficial knock-on effects via the specifical adsorption earliest event on the Zn anode surface. The electrostatic shielding effect regulates the crystallographic energetic preference of Zn deposits and retards fast electro-reduction kinetics, thereby steering stacked stockier block morphology and realizing crystallographic optimization. Meanwhile, the mass transfer rate of Zn ions was accelerated via the SO anion immobilized caused by Ala in bulk electrolyte, finally bringing the balance between electroreduction kinetics and mass transfer process, which enables dendrite-free Zn deposition behavior. Concomitantly, the interfacial adsorbed Ala cations facilitate the electrochemical reduction of interfacial SO anions to form the inorganic-organic hybrid solid electrolyte interphase layer. The above domino effects immensely improve the utilization efficiency of Zn anodes and long-term stability, as demonstrated by the 12 times longer life of Zn||Zn cells (3650 h) and ultrahigh Coulombic efficiency (99.4 %).

Flow fields (FFs) play multifaceted roles in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFC) by facilitating the transport and distribution of species, removal of products, support to the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), electrical conductivity, water, and thermal management. Therefore, the performance of DMFC is directly related to the pattern and geometry of the FF. DMFCs can generate power density of up to ≈100-300 mW cm; however, their performance is impeded by cathode flooding, CO gas bubbles formation, and mass transfer limitations.

Exposure to air pollution plays a significant role in human health. Current methods of measuring human exposure are often limited to outdoor measurements, are time intensive, or are unable to accurately measure certain classes of compounds. This study proposes human hair as a promising indicator of pollution exposure.

Airway obstruction is a distressing and potentially life-threatening complication in patients with advanced head and neck cancers, particularly squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the pharynx. This case highlights the clinical, ethical, and interdisciplinary complexities involved in managing airway compromise in the context of progressive disease and limited treatment options. A 75-year-old man with recurrent SCC of the soft palate, nasopharynx, oropharynx, and hypopharynx, recently initiated on pembrolizumab and radiation therapy, presented with dysphagia, stridor, and intermittent tumor bleeding.

Adipic acid is an essential platform molecule for polymer production and is industrially manufactured by thermochemical oxidation of the cyclohexanone/cyclohexanol mixture (KA oil). Alternatively, electrifying provides a green and sustainable route to synthesizing adipic acid, but has been restricted by the low catalytic efficiency. Herein, we report that a nickel hydroxide electrocatalyst functionalized with 4,4'-bipyridine (Bipy-Ni(OH)) delivers a 3-fold greater productivity compared with that of pristine Ni(OH), achieving an excellent yield (90%) towards efficient adipic acid electrosynthesis.

Background: Vitamin D decomposition products target a myristic acid sidechain of the predominant glycerophospholipid constructed in the biomembranes of causing gastric cancer in humans, and disrupt the membrane structure, followed by bacteriolysis. No earlier studies, however, elucidate whether vitamin D decomposition products interact with the glycerophospholipids that construct the eukaryotic biomembranes and confer whatever cell disorders.
Methods: A gastric cancer cell line, MKN45, and a non-cancer cell line, Vero, were used in this study.
