Background: Flaxseed powder seems to improve bowel movements in these patients. Therefore, this study compares the effects of flaxseed powder and magnesium hydroxide on bowel movements of acute myocardial infarction patients hospitalized in ICU.
Methods: The population of the present parallel randomized controlled clinical trial included 70 acute myocardial infarction patients hospitalized in ICU who had no history of chronic constipation. The patients in the intervention group were given three sachets of flaxseed powder (each sachet was 3 g) twice a day for four days. The patients in the control group were given 20 cc of magnesium hydroxide syrup each morning. The Bristol scale was used to describe stool consistency.
Results: The mean and standard deviation of the number of bowel movements within five days after intervention are 1.86 ± 1.08 and 1.6 ± 0.65 in the intervention and the control groups, respectively. The frequency of normal stool consistency of the first bowel movement is 94.3% for the intervention group and 85.7% for the control group, which shows no significant differences between the two groups in terms of stool consistency and bowel movement frequency (P=0.510). The bowel movements started on average after 35.2±97.97 hours in the flaxseed group and 24.771±2.677 hours in the magnesium hydroxide group (P=0.023).
Conclusion: The results showed that flaxseed powder increases bowel movement frequency and improves the patients' stool consistency, but the differences between the two groups are insignificant. Finally, the time to the first defecation was shorter in the magnesium hydroxide group.

Interest in probiotics has not diminished, and techniques to protect them from the environment in which they are found are constantly being innovated. Spray-drying is the most studied and industrially used technique to encapsulate probiotics. Recently, a new process has been developed in which particle formation, alginate cross-linking, and drying are carried out in a single step.

Biodegradable composite materials enhanced with food waste for tribological applications are proposed in this article. Polymer materials used as matrices included polypropylene and polylactic acid, which, according to the manufacturers' claims, were made entirely or partially from biodegradable raw materials. Additionally, the matrices were enhanced with three types of waste materials: powders derived from cherry and plum stones, and pomace extracted from flax seeds.

This study investigates the functional and nutritional properties of fava bean ingredients (flour, starch and protein concentrates) processed by twin-screw extrusion at various specific mechanical energy (SME) levels (100-3300 kJ/kg). The impact of incorporating flaxseed powders (20-70 %) to enrich polyunsaturated fatty acids is also examined. The extrudates exhibit varied bulk densities (50-1500 kg/m), lightness (L* 75-87) and cell wall morphologies.

Alkali-activated slag recycled cementitious material (ASRCM) has emerged as a sustainable construction material alternative due to its potential for industrial byproduct valorization and reduced carbon footprint. To study the effect of recycled material content on ASRCM performance, this paper systematically investigates the optimal dosages of recycled stone powder, recycled rubber, and flax fiber in ASRCM with a controlled variable method. The synergistic effects of the inclusion of recycled stone powder, recycled rubber, and flax fiber on macro-microstructural properties on the ASRCM have been analyzed.

In this era of hectic lifestyle no one have ample time to take care of their health and generally people miss some nutrients daily. This study has shown that, how to use low price ingredients such as colostrum (unutilized part of dairy farm), flax seed, moringa leaves powder, fresh dates, and gram flour to formulate functional colostrum bar to tackle nutrients deficiency. Optimization process was performed on the basis of sensory attributes, and further functional compounds profiling was done by High Resolution Accurate Mass Spectroscopy, which identified about 980 compounds in total, 60 of which could be positively identified.
