Article Abstract

Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) pathogenesis is strongly related to the role of the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in which MCL cells proliferate. TIME cells can produce growth signals influencing MCL cells' survival and exert an antitumoral immune response suppression. The activity of TIME cells might be mirrored by some ratios of peripheral blood cell subpopulations, such as the monocyte-to-platelet ratio (MPR). We reviewed the clinical features of 165 consecutive MCL patients newly diagnosed and not eligible for autologous stem cell transplantation (both for age or comorbidities) who accessed two Italian Centers between 2006 and 2020. MPR was calculated using data obtained from the complete blood cell count at diagnosis before any cytotoxic treatment and correlated with PFS. Univariate analysis showed that MPR ≥ 3 was associated with inferior PFS (p = 0.02). Multivariate analysis confirmed that MPR ≥ 3, LDH > 2.5 ULN, and bone marrow involvement were significant independent variables in predicting PFS. For these reasons, MPR ≥ 3 seems the most promising prognostic factor in patients with MCL, and it could be considered a variable in new predictive models.

Background: Although a recently developed wideband perfusion sequence has shown diagnostically acceptable image quality and accurate myocardial blood flow (MBF) quantification at rest in patients with cardiac implanted electronic devices (CIEDs), its performance during vasodilator stress remains unproven. This study aims to determine whether the sequence produces diagnostically acceptable image quality during stress and is capable of quantitatively detecting abnormal stress MBF and myocardial perfusion reserve (MPR) in patients with implanted cardiodefibrillators (ICDs).

Methods: We enrolled 29 patients with an ICD (mean age = 63 ± 15 years, 17 males, 12 females) and 11 control patients (mean age = 50 ± 17 years, 6 males, 5 females; negative coronary artery disease; negative stress perfusion CMR; and no cardiac event one year post CMR) with an ICD taped below the left clavicle to mimic image artifacts.

Conjugated linoleic acid supplementation: Insights into prostaglandin synthesis and in vitro embryonic development.

Modulation of prostaglandin synthesis, specifically, decreasing prostaglandin F (PGF) and increasing prostaglandin E (PGE) and interferon-tau (IFNT), can support maternal recognition of pregnancy (MRP) in cattle. Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is known to influence prostaglandins (PG) synthesis in cell cultures; however, its effect on in vitro-cultured bovine oocytes and embryos remain unclear. We hypothesized that CLA supplementation in oocytes and embryo culture media would reduce PGF synthesis, increases PGE synthesis and PGE:PGF ratio in embryos, modulate the expression of genes involved in PG and IFNT synthesis, and enhance embryo development.

Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy plus anti-programmed death (ligand)-1 (anti-PD-(L)1) inhibitors (chemoimmunotherapy) for early-stage nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is under investigation, but differences in pathological response rates between patients who achieved objective responses after 2 versus 3-6 cycles remain unclear.

Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 481 stage II-III NSCLC patients who had 2-6 cycles of neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy followed by surgery (June 2018-February 2024). The primary outcomes compared the pathological response (pathological complete response [pCR] and major pathological response [MPR]) between the 2-cycle (n = 99) and 3-6-cycle (n = 382) groups in patients who achieved objective response as well as between objective response rate (ORR) and non-ORR groups.

Background: Accurate preoperative T staging is essential for determining optimal treatment strategies in colorectal cancer (CRC). Low-keV virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) have been shown to enhance lesion conspicuity. This study aimed to assess the diagnostic value of dual-layer spectral computed tomography (CT)-derived VMIs, in combination with multiplanar reformation (MPR) and evaluation of peritumoral fat stranding (PFS), for improving the accuracy of T staging in CRC.

Mean platelet volume (MPV) may be associated with trauma patients' outcomes. However, the relationship between the MPV-to-platelet count ratio (MPR) and the result of severe trauma has not been reported. This study aimed to analyze and compare the prognostic performances of MPV and MPR in severe trauma.
