Slow and long-term variations of sea surface temperature anomalies have been interpreted as a red-noise response of the ocean surface mixed layer to fast and random atmospheric perturbations. How fast the atmospheric noise is damped depends on the mixed layer depth. In this work we apply this theory to determine the relevant spatial and temporal scales of surface layer thermal inertia in lakes. We fit a first order auto-regressive model to the satellite-derived Lake Surface Water Temperature (LSWT) anomalies in Lake Garda, Italy. The fit provides a time scale, from which we determine the mixed layer depth. The obtained result shows a clear spatial pattern resembling the morphological features of the lake, with larger values (7.18± 0.3 m) in the deeper northwestern basin, and smaller values (3.18 ± 0.24 m) in the southern shallower basin. Such variations are confirmed by in-situ measurements in three monitoring points in the lake and connect to the first Empirical Orthogonal Function of satellite-derived LSWT and chlorophyll-a concentration. Evidence from our case study open a new perspective for interpreting lake-atmosphere interactions and confirm that remotely sensed variables, typically associated with properties of the surface layers, also carry information on the relevant spatial and temporal scales of mixed-layer processes.

Background: Nodular hidradenoma (NH) is a rare benign adnexal tumor originating from sweat glands, often misdiagnosed due to nonspecific clinical manifestations. Ultrasonography (US) plays a critical role in the diagnosis of skin tumors, yet systematic descriptions of its sonographic features remain limited.
Objective: This study aims to investigate the very-high-frequency (VHF) characteristics of eccrine nodular hidradenoma (ENH) and establish key imaging criteria to differentiate it from other cutaneous/subcutaneous lesions.

Three novel tellurate halides CdTeOX (X = Cl, Br, I) were rationally designed by introducing planar [TeO] into the binary anionic compounds, and synthesized by the flux method in sealed systems. The compounds crystallize in the centrosymmetric 2/ space group and show a layered 3D structure built by pyramid-shaped [CdOX] (X = Cl, Br, I), octahedral [CdO], and triangular [TeO] units. The compounds belong to a new emerging oxyhalide family, AII5BIV4OII12XI2, and the pseudo-ternary phase diagram of the CdO-TeO-CdX system is provided.

Topochemical reduction of the n = 2 Ruddlesden-Popper oxide, LaSrCoRuO, yields LaSrCoRuO, a phase containing (Co/Ru)O squares which share corners to form 1D infinite double-chains. In contrast, fluorination of LaSrCoRuO yields the oxyfluoride LaSrCoRuOF, which can then be reduced to form LaSrCoRuOF. This reduced oxyfluoride is almost isoelectronic with LaSrCoRuO, but LaSrCoRuOF has a crystal structure in which the (Co/Ru)O squares are connected into 2D infinite sheets.

This study investigates the vertical profiles, pollution status and ecological risks of heavy metal(loid)s contamination in three sediment cores (N21, N03, and 38002) from the North Yellow Sea (NYS), with a focus on the influence of grain size effects on sedimentary profiles. The results revealed distinct vertical distribution patterns of heavy metal(loid)s content among the three sediment cores. Enrichment Factor (EF) and Geo-accumulation Index (I) assessments identified Sb as significantly enriched, indicating anthropogenic influence, whereas Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, and Zn primarily originated from natural weathering.

Developing high-performance wearable flexible sensors that can adapt well to complex environments has become a hotspot. Herein, a polyvinyl alcohol based composite hydrogel sensor with high mechanical strength, desirable frost/swelling resistance, and highly sensitive sensing performance was proposed by a multi-component collaborative design strategy. Meanwhile, an intelligent gesture recognition system was established by combining machine learning algorithm.
