Article Abstract

The quantitative analysis of research data is a core element of empirical research. The performance of statistical methods that are used for analyzing empirical data can be evaluated and compared using computer simulations. A single simulation study can influence the analyses of thousands of empirical studies to follow. With great power comes great responsibility. Here, we argue that this responsibility includes replication of simulation studies to ensure a sound foundation for data analytical decisions. Furthermore, being designed, run, and reported by humans, simulation studies face challenges similar to other experimental empirical research and hence should not be exempt from replication attempts. We highlight that the potential replicability of simulation studies is an opportunity quantitative methodology as a field should pay more attention to.

I present a comprehensive, open-source simulation framework-Array WAH-for designing, evaluating, and optimising microphone arrays tailored to bioacoustic tracking. The tool incorporates biologically realistic signal generation, frequency-dependent propagation, and advanced Time Difference of Arrival (TDoA) localisation algorithms, enabling precise quantification of both positional and angular accuracy.

Evaluation of the usefulness of the masking on un-smoothed image method in Tl myocardial perfusion SPECT.

In Tl myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), gastric wall uptake can impact the inferior wall. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and usefulness of the masking on un-smoothed image (MUS) method for Tl myocardial perfusion SPECT. A hemispherical gastric wall phantom was created to simulate the gastric fundus located closest to the myocardium, and the activity was enclosed to achieve an SPECT count ratio against the myocardium equivalent to that observed in clinical practice.
