Obesity and its co-morbidities including type 2 diabetes are increasing at epidemic rates in the U.S. and worldwide. Brown adipose tissue (BAT) is a potential therapeutic to combat obesity and type 2 diabetes. Increasing BAT mass by transplantation improves metabolic health in rodents, but its clinical translation remains a challenge. Here, we investigated if transplantation of 2-4 million differentiated brown pre-adipocytes from mouse BAT stromal fraction (SVF) or human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) could improve metabolic health. Transplantation of differentiated brown pre-adipocytes, termed "committed pre-adipocytes" from BAT SVF from mice or derived from hPSCs improves glucose homeostasis and insulin sensitivity in recipient mice under conditions of diet-induced obesity, and this improvement is mediated through the collaborative actions of the liver transcriptome, tissue AKT signaling, and FGF21. These data demonstrate that transplantation of a small number of brown adipocytes has significant long-term translational and therapeutic potential to improve glucose metabolism.

Introduction: Obesity remains a critical global health challenge, intricately linked to poor dietary quality, gut microbiota dysbiosis, and mitochondrial dysfunction.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the comparative effects of brown rice, meal replacements, and thiazolidinediones on mitochondrial abundance and gut microbiota composition in a rat model of diet-induced obesity.
Methods And Materials: A total of twenty male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned to five groups: control, high-fat high-fructose diet, and three intervention groups receiving the same obesogenic diet supplemented with brown rice, meal replacement, or thiazolidinediones for twelve weeks.

Unlabelled: Mongolian gerbils had high ability to endure both high and cold temperatures. To study the mechanism of high ability for thermal adaptation, gerbils were acclimated to high temperature (30 °C) for 8 weeks, and were measured for metabolic features, body composition as well as mitochondrial content and activities. Lipidomic techniques were used to measure changes in mitochondrial membrane, including potential mitochondrial membrane remodeling during acute thermoregulation in gerbils.

Hibernomas are infrequent brown adipose tissue tumors that can mimic various other soft tissue tumors, both malignant and benign, and multiple imaging modalities are usually used in the diagnostic approach. We present the case of a 30-year-old female patient who was initially diagnosed with a mediastinal hibernoma through complete excisional biopsy in 2022 and underwent surgical resection at that time. She required a second surgical intervention in 2024 due to recurrence and is now being evaluated for a second recurrence using fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron-emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT), reporting an extensive polylobulated mediastinal tumor intercalating normometabolic and discretely hypermetabolic zones.

Study Objectives: Research linking children's sleep to cognitive outcomes is inconsistent and has largely focused on one aspect of sleep, such as duration, rather than measuring multiple dimensions of sleep health. We hypothesized that children's sleep health would be positively associated with inhibitory control and cognitive functioning.
Method: We cross-sectionally assessed 1595 participants (ages 7-11) from the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes cohort using the NIH Toolbox Cognition Battery, Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes Sleep Health of Children and Adolescents questionnaire, and Patient Reported Outcome Measurement Information System Sleep Disturbance/Sleep-related Impairment instruments.

Although indicated as adjunctive therapy for seizure disorders, ketogenic diets (KDs) have gained popularity for weight loss and mitigating the metabolic risks associated with severe obesity. However, efficacy, durability, and long-term consequences are incompletely understood. In preclinical models, most studies have included only male mice, precluding an understanding of sex-specific responses to KD.
