Article Abstract

Dyschromia is the result of irregular facial pigmentation. These cutaneous manifestations can have a significant impact on the quality of life of those affected, especially among females and skin of color. In this randomized, double-blinded, two-cell, single-center, 16-week clinical study, all subjects had moderate to severe (scores 4-9 on the modified Griffiths Scale) hyperpigmentation and skin unevenness of the face such that approximately 20% of subjects had post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), 40% had overall mottled hyperpigmentation, and 40% had superficial melasma (Superficial Melasma was determined by Wood's Lamp Assessment). Study participants received either Product A (proprietary new formulation - Cysteamine HSA) or Product B (current marketed product - Cyspera®) and used the test product either in the morning or at night, beginning with every other day application, and then advanced to every day, or as tolerated. The results revealed that both Product A (Cysteamine HSA) and Product B (Cyspera®) had statistically significant improvement in facial hyperpigmentation and skin unevenness, however, Product A (Cysteamine HSA) had better tolerability results for scaling, peeling, burning, stinging, erythema, and dryness, indicating that Product A (Cysteamine HSA) outperformed Product B (Cyspera®). Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have potential applications in various biomedical and biotechnological fields, importance of protein-CNTs interactions in living cells, as well as their concerns about the nanotoxicity of these CNTs, have not been well investigated. This study examines by experimentally human serum albumin (HSA) interaction with different surface functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The adsorption was done on HSA onto 1,2-propanediol functionalized MWCNTs (MWCNTs-OH) and cysteamine functionalized MWCNTs (MWCNTs-SH) and estimates the corresponding adsorption parameters.

An electrochemical impedimetric biosensor for human serum albumin (HSA) determination is proposed. The biosensor is based on water-phase assembled nanocomposites made of 2D WS nanoflakes and Au nanoparticles (AuNPs). The WS has been produced using a liquid-phase exfoliation strategy assisted by sodium cholate, obtaining a water-stable suspension that allowed the straightforward decoration with AuNPs directly in the aqueous phase.

A new method for monitoring, in real-time, the self-assembly of chitosan/glutaraldehyde/cysteamine (CGC) on the gold surface and the immobilization of Au-colloid on CGC membrane with piezoelectric quartz crystal impedance (PQCI) are firstly proposed. Cyclic voltammogram and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were also use to investigate the formation of Au-colloid/CGC. The viscosity-average molecular weight of chitosan used was firstly estimated as 16.

In this study, a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) system operated repetitively in flow injection analysis (FIA) mode, is reported. Four immobilization approaches of seven different methods include: (i) physical adsorption; (ii) two thioamine thiolation methods, using cysteamine and cystamine for gold chemisorption and further coupling; (iii) two oxidized dextran spacer methods, coupling of cysteamine and cystamine thiolated QCM surface with periodate-oxidized dextran for further Schiff acid-base reaction; and (iv) two thiol-gold chemisorption-based self-assembled monolayer (SAM), applying short-chain, C(3), and long-chain, C(11), mercapto fatty acids to insolubilize human serum albumin (HSA) on QCM surface. Effects of these protein immobilization methods on FIA immunoassay of anti-HSA were compared.
