Article Abstract

The current work focuses on the sequential separation of trivalent lanthanides (except Pm) using modified C silica-packed supports through the reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) technique. In the current research, four indigenously synthesized amphiphilic aromatic triamide derivatives, namely N, N, N, N, N, N-hexa(alkyl) benzene-1,3,5-tri carboxamide (alkyl = butyl, hexyl, octyl, and decyl), were employed as column modifiers. The results show that the separation of Ln can be achieved systematically (< 12 min) by tuning the modifiers' functional group and hydrophobic chain and fine-tuning the column modification procedure and separation parameters. The chromatographic studies revealed that the use of 0.168 mmol of N, N, N, N,N, N-hexa(hexyl)benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamide (HHBTA) coated column and 0.419 mmol of N, N, N, N, N, N-hexa(octyl) benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamide (HOBTA) modified columns offered excellent separation for the lanthanoids, using 0.1 M α-hydroxyisobutyric acid (HIBA), as mobile phase. The separated lanthanoids were quantified by post-column derivatization reaction (after the separation process) using Arsenazo (III) as the post-column reagent by integrating with a UV-Visible detector fixed at 655 nm (λ). A systematic study on the influence of various analytical features, such as the effect of the modifier's chain length and its concentration, mobile phase composition and pH, was performed and optimized for achieving the best separation protocols.

Silicon carbide (SiC) membranes combine exceptional chemical, thermal, and mechanical stability but suffer from surface inertness that precludes functionalization. Conversely, MOFs offer unmatched molecular selectivity but are typically powders, severely limiting their practical use. To address this, we develop a generalizable route to fabricate ultrastable MOF@SiC membranes via sequential oxidation and acidification, creating abundant Si-OH sites on SiC surfaces that covalently bond with Zr-MOF crystals; the bonding mechanism between MOFs and substrates has been extensively studied.

Multifunctional Photoactive Janus Nanofibrous Membranes for Unidirectional Water Transport and Remediation of Airborne Pathogens and Pollutants.

State Key Laboratory of Materials-Oriented Chemical Engineering, National Engineering Research Center for Special Separation Membrane, Nanjing Tech University, Nanjing 210009, China.

Airborne pathogens and pollution control typically necessitate multiple membranes, each specializing in efficient aerosol filtration, moisture regulation, or antimicrobial protection. Integrating all these functions into a single membrane is highly advantageous but remains inherently challenging due to material incompatibility and inevitable performance trade-offs. Here, we present a photoactive Janus nanofibrous membrane for highly efficient air purification, engineered via sequential electrospinning.

This study reports the enhanced photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance of TiO/α-FeO heterostructure films fabricated a sequential aerosol-assisted chemical vapour deposition (AACVD) of hematite at 450 °C, followed by atmospheric pressure CVD (APCVD) of anatase TiO with controlled thickness. Structural analyses (XRD, Raman, XPS) confirmed phase purity and oxidation states, while UV-vis spectroscopy revealed a narrowed bandgap and extended visible light absorption for the heterostructures compared to pristine films. The optimized TiO/α-FeO (8 min) photoanode achieved a photocurrent density of 1.

Dual-Stimulus Programmed Multiphase Separation and Organization in Coacervate Droplets.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

Stimuli-responsive (multiphase) coacervates deserve significant attention as cell-like entities that can adapt to their environment and undergo morphological reconfiguration. In this study, a tandem-triggered transition system is presented that enables the transformation of single-phase coacervates into multiphase structures through the sequential application of two external stimuli: pH and salt concentration. A polyanion containing acid-labile amide bond is incorporated into the membrane-less coacervates.

Pu and Sr are highly important radionuclides in the environment, which can accumulate in the human body through the food chain and cause radiation exposure. With the continuous discharge of treated nuclear contamination water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, it is crucial to investigate and monitor the levels of Pu and Sr in seafood. However, it is still a challenge to determine Pu and Sr in seafood at environmental levels, owing to their extremely low concentrations, labor-intensive and time-consuming pre-treatment for large-sized samples.
