Article Abstract

In this latest update, we explore the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) enacted by the US Congress in August 2022, with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently releasing the list of the first ten drugs it will negotiate prices on. We also cover the consequences of price controls and rigid value assessment in Germany which have led to the withdrawal of a number of medicines. It will be important to see how the IRA balances cost-saving with holistic value assessment, incentives for innovation and patient access to treatment.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the provision of sexual and reproductive health services, including contraceptive and family planning (FP) services. In this paper, we share the results of a qualitative study aimed at understanding clients' perspectives at the primary healthcare level on accessing contraceptive services in COVID-19-affected areas in the three aforementioned countries.

Mental disorders are on the increase, while access to care is becoming increasingly difficult for those affected. This article presents the "Projet de Liaison Universitaire de TerritOire du Nord" (PLUTON), an initiative to improve access to psychiatric care in an area of the Hauts-de-France region and to combat medical desertification. Initially conceived as a response to a health crisis, PLUTON has gradually evolved to rethink the organisation of psychiatric care in a given area.

Issue Addressed: Citizen science, an approach to health promotion that involves public participation and collaboration, has been posited as a promising approach to reach diverse or marginalised populations. This scoping review aims to explore the involvement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and other First Nations and Indigenous peoples internationally in citizen science in health-related studies. While current health promotion in Indigenous communities is already strongly embedded in participatory approaches, we sought to examine whether citizen science methodologies have been used in health promotion and see what it could add.

Studies indicate that dietary patterns influence the function and redox balance of salivary glands. This study examined the effects of intermittent fasting (IF) on the function, histological structure, and redox balance of the salivary glands. Twenty 12-weeks-old male Wistar rats were randomized into two groups: ad libitum (AL), with continuous access to water and chow, and IF, subjected to 24-hour fasting on alternate days for 12 weeks.

Background: American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities experienced a disproportionate increase in opioid-related fatal and non-fatal poisonings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Access to treatment, such as medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), became even more critical, although research among this population is limited.
