Article Abstract

Aims: The purpose of this study was to clarify the dentato-rubro-thalamic (DRT) pathway in action tremor in comparison to normal controls (NC) and disease controls (i.e., rest tremor) by using multi-modality magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Methods: This study included 40 essential tremor (ET) patients, 57 Parkinson's disease (PD) patients (29 with rest tremor, 28 without rest tremor), and 41 NC. We used multi-modality MRI to comprehensively assess major nuclei and fiber tracts of the DRT pathway, which included decussating DRT tract (d-DRTT) and non-decussating DRT tract (nd-DRTT), and compared the differences in DRT pathway components between action and rest tremor.

Results: Bilateral dentate nucleus (DN) in the ET group had excessive iron deposition compared with the NC group. Compared with the NC group, significantly decreased mean diffusivity and radial diffusivity were observed in the left nd-DRTT in the ET group, which were negatively correlated with tremor severity. No significant difference in each component of the DRT pathway was observed between the PD subgroup or the PD and NC.

Conclusion: Aberrant changes in the DRT pathway may be specific to action tremor and were indicating that action tremor may be related to pathological overactivation of the DRT pathway.

Insomnia, a widespread neurological condition, is often managed with diazepam (DZP), a gamma-aminobutyric acid A (GABA) receptor agonist, though prolonged use raises concerns about dependence and cognitive impairment. This study investigated the sedative and locomotor-suppressive effects of succinic acid (SUC), alone and in combination with DZP, supported by behavioral and computational analyses. Swiss albino mice were treated intraperitoneally (i.

The urgent demand for Pt-free oxygen reduction catalysts drives exploration of tungsten-based alternatives, motivated by its Pt-mimetic valence electron configuration and optimal oxygen binding energy (Δ ≈ - 2.05 eV) revealed in oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) volcano plots. Herein, a hierarchical WN-doped catalyst has been engineered through dual-stage thermal activation of covalent triazine framework (CTF)-tungstate complexes, where W precursors serve dual roles as self-sacrificing templates and active site generators.

The subnucleus reticularis dorsalis (SRD), also known as the dorsal reticular nucleus (DRt) or dorsal medullary reticular nucleus (MdD), which resides at the caudal end of the medulla, plays a pivotal role in regulating pain perception. Despite extensive research efforts to unravel its mechanisms, the operational intricacies of SRD remain poorly understood. Advances in experimental methodologies such as brain imaging and chemogenetics have facilitated deeper investigations into the involvement of SRD in various pain disorders.

Background: Percutaneous left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) is usually performed after a pre-procedural evaluation by transesophageal echocardiography (TOE) or cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA). Nevertheless, these ad-hoc examinations imply an additional use of hospital resources and time spending.

Aims: To investigate long-term clinical outcomes, effectiveness and safety of performing LAAC procedures without pre-procedural imaging assessment in patients with high and very high thromboembolic risk based on CHADS-VASc score.

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) play a critical role in modern energy storage systems, enabling their widespread use in portable electronics, electric vehicles, and grid-scale applications. However, accurately identifying and separating internal resistance components remains a significant challenge, limiting the optimization of battery performance and longevity. Here, utilizing the distribution of relaxation time (DRT) method, we deconvolute overlapping impedance components and analyze six distinct polarization processes within the battery system.
