The Last Interglacial (LIG: 130,000-115,000 years ago) was a period of warmer global mean temperatures and higher and more variable sea levels than the Holocene (11,700-0 years ago). Therefore, a better understanding of Antarctic ice-sheet dynamics during this interval would provide valuable insights for projecting sea-level change in future warming scenarios. Here we present a high-resolution record constraining ice-sheet changes in the Wilkes Subglacial Basin (WSB) of East Antarctica during the LIG, based on analysis of sediment provenance and an ice melt proxy in a marine sediment core retrieved from the Wilkes Land margin. Our sedimentary records, together with existing ice-core records, reveal dynamic fluctuations of the ice sheet in the WSB, with thinning, melting, and potentially retreat leading to ice loss during both early and late stages of the LIG. We suggest that such changes along the East Antarctic Ice Sheet margin may have contributed to fluctuating global sea levels during the LIG.

Small glaciers situated in high mountainous areas are experiencing notable declines, characterized by unprecedented rates of ice loss in recent years. This study investigates the recent changes in surface elevation and mass loss occurring between 2010 and 2023 within the Alamkouh Glacier over three subperiods, one of the biggest glaciers in Iran and the Middle East. These assessments are derived from a combination of high-resolution LiDAR data in 2010 (with a spatial resolution of 20 cm) and multi-temporal surveys conducted using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in 2018, 2020, and 2023 (with spatial resolutions varied from 10 to 20 cm).

Conventional gelatin's gel-to-sol transition upon heating restricts its utility in biomedical applications that benefit from a gel state at physiological temperatures such as Pluronic F127 and poly(NIPAAm). Herein, we present "rev-Gelatin", a gelatin engineered with reverse thermo-responsive properties that undergoes a sol-to-gel transition as temperature rises from ambient to body temperature. Inspired by the phase dynamics of common materials like candy and ice cubes, whose surfaces soften or partially melt under warming, facilitating inter-object adhesion- rev-Gelatin leverages this concept to achieve fluidity at room temperature for easy injectability.

Here we present the study of 48 new dinoflagellate cyst assemblages from the west Antarctic shelf sediments on a wide longitudinal scale, with a greater representation of ice-proximal sites, and provide a comprehensive overview of their distributional patterns and multiple environmental forcing factors. We find a strong spatial heterogeneity in the dinoflagellate cyst distribution patterns; 1) the northern Antarctic Peninsula region is dominated by Islandinium? minutum, Selenopemphix antarctica and Brigantedinium spp. in association with meltwater-induced stratification and high diatom productivity, 2) the Bellingshausen-Amundsen Seas is dominated by Gymnodinium microreticulatum and Selenopemphix sp.
