Article Abstract

Global hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) cumulative emissions will be more than 20 Gt CO-equiv during 2020-2060 and have a non-negligible impact on global warming even in full compliance with the Kigali Amendment (KA). Fluorochemical manufacturers (including multinationals) in China have accounted for about 70% of global HFC production since 2015, of which about 60% is emitted outside China. This study built an integrated model (i.e., DECAF) to estimate both territorial and exported emissions of China under three scenarios and assess the corresponding climate effects as well as abatement costs. Achieving near-zero territorial emissions by 2060 could avoid 23 ± 4 Gt CO-equiv of cumulative territorial emissions (compared to the 2019 Baseline scenario) during 2020-2060 at an average abatement cost of 9 ± 6 USD/t CO-equiv. Under the near-zero emission (including territorial and abroad) pathway, radiative forcing from HFCs will peak in 2037 (60 ± 6 mW/m) with a 33% peak reduction and 8 years in advance compared to the path regulated by the KA, and the radiative forcing by 2060 will be lower than that in 2019. Accelerated phase-out of HFC production in China could provide a possibility for rapid global HFC abatement and achieve greater climate benefits.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 virus poses a continuing global public health threat due to its outbreaks in poultry farms and zoonotic transmission from birds to humans. In the quest of effective therapeutics against H5N1 infection, antibodies with broad neutralizing activity have attracted significant attention. In this study, we employed a phage display technique to select and identify VHH antibodies with specific neutralizing activity against H5N1 hemagglutinin (HA) from an immune llama-derived antibody library.

Almost half of pregnant women globally are currently estimated to be overweight or obese. Rates of childhood obesity are also on the rise, in part because of increased consumption of dietary saturated fats. However, the long-term effect of peri- and postnatal high fat (HF) feeding on cognitive function and neuronal expression has not yet been investigated.

The demand for trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene [HFO-1234ze(E)] as a next-generation, low-global-warming-potential (GWP) refrigerant is rising due to international restrictions on high-GWP refrigerants like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). Catalytic dehydrofluorination of HFC-245fa offers a viable synthesis route for the production of HFO-1234ze(E), but the catalyst degradation under harsh acidic conditions remains a major challenge. In this study, a highly stable γ-AlO supported catalyst was developed for efficient dehydrofluorination with vanadium species exhibiting the highest activity among the screened metal ions Ni, V, Zn, La, Fe, Mn and Cu.

We investigate computationally the hyperfine couplings (HFCs) and the consequent paramagnetic nuclear magnetic resonance (pNMR) chemical shifts of a recently synthesised doublet Fe(V) bis(imido) complex. Using conventional global hybrid density-functional theory (DFT) methods with varying exact-exchange admixture, a significant spin contamination problem is observed, leading to a massive spin-density spill-over to the strongly bound imido ligands and to the BH group of the carbene framework. As a result, the computed paramagnetic NMR shifts, which are based on a combination of calculated -tensor, DFT-calculated orbital shielding and DFT-based HFCs, disagree strongly with the available experimental H NMR chemical shifts and predict unrealistic C shifts in the spill-over region.

Background: The efficacy and safety of secukinumab up to week 52 in children and adolescents with moderate-to-severe chronic plaque psoriasis have been demonstrated previously (NCT03668613). Herein, we report the long-term efficacy, safety, and tolerability of secukinumab over a period of up to 208 weeks.

Methods: In this randomized open-label trial, patients (6 to < 18 years) were randomized 1:1 to receive low-dose (LD; N = 42) or high-dose (HD; N = 42) secukinumab stratified by weight (< 25 kg, 25 to < 50 kg, or ≥ 50 kg) and disease severity (moderate or severe).
