Article Abstract

As a member of TALE family, Meis1 has been proven to regulate cell proliferation and differentiation during cell fate commitment; however, the mechanism is still not fully understood. The planarian, which has an abundance of stem cells (neoblasts) responsible for regenerating any organ after injury, is an ideal model for studying the mechanisms of tissue identity determination. Here, we characterized a planarian homolog of Meis1 from the planarian . Importantly, we found that knockdown of inhibits the differentiation of neoblasts into eye progenitor cells and results in an eyeless phenotype with normal central nervous system. Furthermore, we observed that is required for the activation of Wnt signaling pathway by promoting the expression during posterior regeneration. The silencing of suppresses the expression of and results in the inability to reconstruct posterior poles. In general, our findings indicated that acts as a trigger for the activation of eye and tail regeneration by regulating the differentiation of eye progenitor cells and the formation of posterior poles, respectively.

Objective: To assess the safety and tolerability of intravitreal injection of human retinal progenitor cells (RPCs) at multiple dose levels in adults with non-syndromic retinitis pigmentosa (RP).

Design: A prospective, multicenter, open-label, single-arm, Phase I/IIa safety study of RPCs in adults with RP ( = 28). Two patient cohorts were studied: Cohort 1: BCVA no better than 20/200 and no worse than Hand Motions, and Cohort 2: BCVA no better than 20/40 and no worse than 20/200).

The Sonic Hedgehog (Shh) signaling pathway is essential for the patterning, growth, and morphogenesis of many tissues. During early eye development, Shh is critical for the formation of the two optic vesicles, which give rise to the retina, retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), and optic stalk. It also regulates the balance between cell proliferation and differentiation during retinal histogenesis, a key process in shaping the cellular architecture of the mature retina.

The cornea is highly specialized and a detailed map of the diverse component cell types is a vital tool for ocular disease treatment and corneal healing. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) was performed to analyze corneal wound healing in C57BL/6J mice following 3.74 μm infrared laser injury (23.

Stem/progenitor cells play an important role in tissue repair and regeneration in response to injury and maintain tissue homeostasis. The existence of the progenitor cells within the human lacrimal gland is established, but their distribution and response to tissue injury are unclear. This study investigated progenitor cells' distribution and gene expression in normal and inflamed human lacrimal glands.
