In this paper, guided modes in isotropic chiral nihility metamaterial fibers coated with graphene layers supported by conventional dielectric material are studied theoretically. Kubo formalism is applied to model the conductivity of single-layer graphene, and suitable boundary conditions are applied at the proposed waveguide structure. The dispersion equation for the chiral nihility fiber and the normalized cut-off frequency are derived.

Terahertz (THz) waves have garnered significant interest across various fields, particularly in high-sensitivity sensing applications. Metamaterials can be employed in THz sensors, specifically for refractive index sensing and pesticide detection due to their high-sensitivity characteristics. In this Article, a dual-band flexible THz metamaterial sensor based on polyimide is proposed for refractive index and pesticide sensing, which is fabricated using ultraviolet (UV) lithography technology and measured by a THz time-domain spectroscope (TDS) system.

Performing sensitive and selective detection in a mixture is challenging for terahertz (THz) sensors. In light of this, many methods have been developed to detect molecules in complex samples using THz technology. Here we demonstrate a defect-rich monolayer graphene-coated metamaterial operating in the THz regime for pesticide sensing in a mixture through strong local interactions between graphene and external molecules.

Spatial manipulation of nanoparticles (NPs) in a controlled manner is critical for the fabrication of 3D hybrid materials with unique functions. However, traditional fabrication methods such as electron-beam lithography and stereolithography are usually costly and time-consuming, precluding their production on a large scale. Herein, for the first time the ultrafast laser direct writing is combined with external magnetic field (MF) to massively produce graphene-coated ultrafine cobalt nanoparticles supported on 3D porous carbon using metal-organic framework crystals as precursors (5 × 5 cm with 10 s).

In this paper, a 3D sub-wavelength graphene-coated nano-disk dimer (GDD) is proposed for multi-frequency giant near-field enhancement. We observed that the dual-band operation originates from the excitation of hybridized localized surface plasmons on top and bottom faces of the disks along with the mutual coupling from the adjacent particle. Due to the sub-wavelength nature of the disks, the excited localized surface plasmons on the sidewalls are weak but they still can affect the dual operating bands.
