Annually, millions of humans and animals suffer from chronic and acute pain, creating welfare and quality of life concerns for both humans and animals who suffer this pain. In developing new therapeutic approaches, the challenge is to accurately measure this pain to ascertain the efficacy of novel therapeutics. Additionally, there is a need to develop new and effective analgesic options that may offer alternatives to using opioids that contribute to the opioid epidemic.

Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) is a neurological syndrome characterized by the gradual deterioration of language capabilities. Due to its neurodegenerative nature, PPA is marked by a continuous decline, necessitating ongoing and adaptive therapeutic interventions. Recent studies have demonstrated that behavioral therapies, particularly when combined with neuromodulation techniques such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), can improve treatment outcomes, including the long-term maintenance and generalization of therapeutic effects.

Amyloid-β (Aβ) is implicated in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and plays a significant role in neuronal degeneration. Aβ in solution is essential during the initial stages of developing lead compounds that influence Aβ fibrillation. The tendency of the Aβ peptide to misfold in solution is correlated with the etiology of AD.

Treatment of patients with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer is a major clinical challenge. We found that high expression of a meiotic protein, Synaptonemal Complex Protein 2 (SYCP2), is associated with platinum resistance and tyrosine kinase ABL1 inhibitor sensitivity in ovarian cancer. We demonstrate that tyrosine kinase ABL1 inhibitors inhibit cancer cell proliferation more efficiently in ovarian cancer cell lines with SYCP2 overexpression.

4-Phenylbutyrate (4-PBA), initially recognized for treating urea cycle disorders, has emerged as a potent therapeutic agent with broad-spectrum potential. As a chemical chaperone, 4-PBA modulates protein folding and reduces endoplasmic reticulum stress. 4-PBA has demonstrated efficacy in treating ocular herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) infection and HSV-1-induced encephalitis, highlighting its potential as a novel anti-herpetic therapy.
