Novel ammonia catalysts seek to achieve high reaction rates under milder conditions, which translate into lower costs and energy requirements. Alkali and alkaline earth metal hydrides have been shown to possess such favorable kinetics when employed in a chemical looping process. The materials act as nitrogen carriers and form ammonia by alternating between pure nitrogen and hydrogen feeds in a two-stage chemical looping reaction. However, the thermodynamics of the novel reaction route in question are only partially available. Here, a chemical looping process was designed and simulated to evaluate the sensitivity of the energy and economic performance of the processes toward the appropriate gas-solid reaction thermodynamics. Thermodynamic parameters, such as reaction pressure and especially equilibrium ammonia yields, influenced the performance of the system. In comparison to a commercial ammonia synthesis unit with a 28% yield at 150 bar, the chemical looping process requires a yield greater than 38% to achieve similar energy consumptions and a yield greater than 26% to achieve similar costs at a given temperature and 150 bar. Entropies and enthalpies of formation of the following pairs were estimated and compared: LiH/LiNH, MgH/MgNH, CaH/CaNH, SrH/SrNH, and BaH/BaNH. Only the LiH/LiNH pair has satisfied the given criteria, and initial estimates suggest that a 62% yield is obtainable.

Heart failure (HF) and lung cancer (LC) often coexist, yet their shared molecular mechanisms are unclear. We analyzed transcriptome data from the NCBI Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database (GSE141910, GSE57338) to identify 346 HF‑related differentially expressed genes (DEGs), then combined weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) pinpointed 70 hub candidates. Further screening of these 70 hub candidates in TCGA lung cancer cohorts via LASSO, Random Forest, and multivariate Cox regression suggested CYP4B1 as the only independent prognostic marker.

Chemical absorption of carbon dioxide using monoethanolamine (MEA) is a well-established method for postcombustion CO capture. In this study, we aimed to integrate (1) the MEA-based CO capture with the regeneration of MEA using calcium-based mineralization, followed by (2) direct utilization of captured CO to form syngas via a calcium looping-based dry reforming of methane (CaL-DRM), an interfacial catalytic process. The results show that room-temperature CO capture-MEA regeneration was achievable by using calcium-based mineralization.

Self-regulating hydrogels represent the next generation in the development of soft materials with active, adaptive, autonomous, and intelligent behavior inspired by sophisticated biological systems. Nature provides exemplary demonstrations of such self-regulating behaviors, including muscle tissue's precise biochemical and mechanical feedback mechanisms, and coordinated cellular chemotaxis driven by dynamic biochemical signaling. Building upon these natural examples, self-regulating hydrogels are capable of spontaneously modulating their structural and functional states through integrated negative feedback loops.

Background: DNA G-quadruplexes (G4s) are non-canonical secondary structures formed in guanine-rich DNA sequences and play important roles in modulating biological processes through a variety of gene regulatory mechanisms. Emerging G4 profiling allows global mapping of endogenous G4 formation.
Results: Here in this study, we map the G4 landscapes in adult skeletal muscle stem cells (MuSCs), which are essential for injury-induced muscle regeneration.

Kappa carrageenan (KC), a sulfated polysaccharide derived from red seaweed, exhibits distinct gelation properties that are influenced by ionic strength and thermal conditions. While its behavior in aqueous media is well-established, understanding KC's gelation mechanisms in non-aqueous solvents (like glycerol) remains limited. This study investigates the conformational and rheological properties of kappa carrageenan in glycerol, focusing on the effects of sodium salts (NaCl, NaHPO, NaPO) at varying concentrations and preparation temperatures (60 °C and 80 °C).
