Article Abstract

Arsenic (As) and heavy metals (Cd, Hg, Pb, and Cu) and pesticide residues in 14 edible insects were investigated. The maximum levels of elements were 6.15 for As, 0.82 for Cd, 0.50 for Hg, 0.67 for Pb, and 297.7 ppm for Cu. Fenobucarb (or BPMC) has been quantified through GC- and LC-MS/MS analysis at a concentration of approximately 3 ppm. Further studies of the contaminants may help ensure the safety of edible insect consumption.

Artificial cytoskeletons are constructed to study the structure and function of eukaryotic cells. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) provide a strong foundation for the construction of artificial cytoskeleton by encapsulating enzyme, yet challenges such as random enzyme distribution and poor catalytic efficiency, impede the development of artificial cytoskeleton technologies. Herein, a multilayer MOFs-based programmable artificial cytoskeleton was constructed through a heterogeneous interfacial growth method, utilizing hierarchical encapsulation of enzymes to facilitate tandem biocatalytic reactions.

Neonicotinoid insecticides residuals pose a threat to aquatic ecosystems and human health. Imidaclothiz, as a novel neonicotinoid pesticide, the metabolic mechanisms in aquatic environments was unclear. This study investigated the degradation characteristics of imidaclothiz in both pure and actual water, and analyzed the photodegradation and hydrolysis metabolites of imidaclothiz in aquatic environments and assessed their toxicity.

As key pollinators, bees are increasingly threatened by environmental stressors such as heavy metals, pesticides, and temperature fluctuations, which can cause oxidative stress and disrupt cellular homeostasis. Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) play crucial roles in antioxidant defense and detoxification, yet systematic studies on bee GST families remain limited. Here, we conducted a genome-wide analysis of cytosolic GST genes in 13 bee species, identifying 146 genes in total.

Fludioxonil, a fungicide commonly used in agriculture, has been detected in livestock, such as cattle, even though it is primarily intended for use in plants. Unintended exposure to fludioxonil may compromise immune cells, cardiomyocytes, and glioma cells, indicating its potential risk as an environmental hazard. However, research on the detrimental effects of fludioxonil remains scarce, particularly regarding its impact on livestock, which are directly exposed to fludioxonil because of its widespread agricultural use.
