A population study has been performed for Pakistani ballpoint pen inks of blue, black, red, and green colors (a total of four colors) commercially used in Pakistan. Ballpoint pen inks have been investigated and discriminated by using UV/Vis spectroscopy and FTIR spectroscopy. We have calculated and compared the results in terms of discriminating power (DP). The statistical techniques of principal component analysis and cluster analysis have been applied on obtained data. By visual comparison, the best DP is obtained for green ballpoint pen inks, i.e., 0.866 by using UV/Vis spectroscopy and FTIR techniques. Black and red ballpoint pen inks showed the highest DPs by using UV/Vis spectroscopy; however, blue ballpoint pen inks got the highest DP by using FTIR spectroscopy. DP has been improved by using chemometric techniques and higher DPs are obtained as compared to visual examination.

Purpose: To analyze existing literature for presentation, management, and outcomes of penetrating transorbital intracranial injury due to ballpoint pen with emphasis on multidisciplinary management and report an additional case of this rare entity with significant abscess.
Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted using PubMed, Embase, and MEDLINE with keywords "orbit," "transorbital," or "intracranial" and "pen" or "ballpoint pen." Individual cases were included if both transorbital and intracranial injury were present and if the underlying intraorbital foreign body was whole or parts of a pen.

The field of bioelectronics has witnessed significant advancements, offering practical solutions for personalized healthcare through the acquisition and analysis of skin-based physical, chemical, and electrophysiological signals. Despite these advancements, current bioelectronics face several challenges, including complex preparation procedures, poor skin adherence, susceptibility to motion artifacts, and limited personalization and reconfigurability capabilities. In this study, we introduce an innovative method for fabricating erasable bioelectronics on a flexible substrate coating adhered to the skin using a ballpoint pen without any postprocessing.

In February 1968, NASA purchased 400 antigravity ballpoint pens from the Fisher Pen Company for the Apollo Program to prevent potential harm to astronauts and equipment. Mechanical pencils previously used in microgravity posed risks like eye injuries from floating fragments penetrating the cornea. The cornea is vulnerable to abrasions, perforations, and chemical burns in such environments, affecting crewmembers aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
