Article Abstract

Most van der Waals two-dimensional (2D) materials without surface dangling bonds show limited surface activities except for their edge sites. Ultrathin BiSe, a topological insulator that behaves metal-like under ambient conditions, has been overlooked on its surface activities. Herein, through a topochemical conversion process, ultrathin nanoporous BiSe layers were epitaxially deposited on BiOCl nanosheets with strong electronic coupling, leading to hybrid electronic states with further bandgap narrowing. Such oriented nanoporous BiSe layers possessed largely exposed active edge sites, along with improved surface roughness and film forming ability even on inkjet-printed flexible electrodes. Superior room-temperature NO sensing performance was achieved compared to other 2D materials under bent conditions. Our work demonstrates that creating nanoscale features in 2D materials through topochemical heteroepitaxy is promising to achieve both favorable electronic properties and surface activity toward practical applications.

Effect of Anodic Aluminium Oxide Structure on the Electroless Ni-P Distribution into Nanopores.

Materials (Basel)

August 2025

CICECO-Aveiro Institute of Materials, Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering, University of Aveiro, 3810-193 Aveiro, Portugal.

The anodization of aluminium/aluminium alloys is widely used to produce anodic nanoporous networks for metal layered structures, with applications in energy harvesting technologies and sensor systems. Anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) with thickness of ~10 μm and average pore diameter of 13, 33, and 95 nm is prepared by tuning acids and voltages, being further used for electroless nickel deposition, performed for 10 min using conventional electrolyte with sodium hypophosphite reductor and pH 4.5.

Background: Hemophilia A (HA) is an X-linked recessive bleeding disorder caused by pathogenic variants in the gene, resulting in deficient coagulation factor VIII activity. Although intron 22 and intron 1 inversions (Inv22 and Inv1) accounts for approximately 50% of severe HA cases, complex structural rearrangements mediated by intron 22 homologous region ( repeats have rarely reported and poorly characterized.

Methods: In this study, we investigated a Chinese severe HA pedigree with a complex rearrangement of gene by integrating 750 K SNP arrays, long-read sequencing (Oxford Nanopore Technologies, ONT), and optical genome mapping (OGM).

Here we investigate nanotubes of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) prepared by solvent casting using highly ordered AAO (anodized aluminum oxide) membranes as templates. Upon varying the thickness of the nanotubes between 13 nm and 44 nm, a rise in conductivity by five orders of magnitude is observed. For 44 nm thick P3HT nanotubes, a conductivity value higher than in the bulk is reported.

Selective separation of monovalent cations is a critical challenge in applications such as water purification and lithium recovery from salt brines. Cross-linked zwitterionic amphiphilic copolymer (ZAC-X) membranes have gained attention for their exceptional anion permselectivity, attributed to self-assembled zwitterion-lined nanodomains that interact preferentially with anions according to their hydrated radii . However, these membranes show minimal selectivity among monovalent cations, despite significant differences in their hydration structures, motivating studies on the underlying mechanisms of cation transport and selectivity in this family of materials.

Hydrogen-Bonded Interfacial Super-Assembly of Spherical Carbon Superstructures for High-Performance Zinc Hybrid Capacitors.

Nanomicro Lett

Carbon superstructures with multiscale hierarchies and functional attributes represent an appealing cathode candidate for zinc hybrid capacitors, but their tailor-made design to optimize the capacitive activity remains a confusing topic. Here we develop a hydrogen-bond-oriented interfacial super-assembly strategy to custom-tailor nanosheet-intertwined spherical carbon superstructures (SCSs) for Zn-ion storage with double-high capacitive activity and durability. Tetrachlorobenzoquinone (H-bond acceptor) and dimethylbenzidine (H-bond donator) can interact to form organic nanosheet modules, which are sequentially assembled, orientally compacted and densified into well-orchestrated superstructures through multiple H-bonds (N-H···O).
