This Letter proposes a holographic cylindrical vector beam converter (HCVBC) design that incorporates a continuously polarization-selective volume hologram circular-grating. A specially designed truncated cone prism is adopted for recording, which is conducted with a single incident, expanded, radially polarized beam. A prototype of this HCVBC was recorded and tested successfully. This design has the advantages of high diffraction efficiency, a narrow band, compactness, and planar configuration; thus, it is especially suitable for low-cost mass production and has high potential for application in related fields.

Holographic optical elements (HOEs) span a wide application, such as virtual reality and augmented reality displays. However, due to the complex aperiodic structures in lens-type HOEs, the phase design faces difficulties in aberration optimization. Here, we present a method for the design of the off-axis reflective lens-type HOE.

Based on optical holography theory, a holographic conformal modulation mechanism is proposed, and the conformal surface impedance distribution of HM is derived. To illustrate this mechanism, the designed conformal reconfigurable HM is used to demonstrate a series of radiation and scattering modulation functions, with its reconfigurable property enabling dynamic beam control.

A core dielectric cylindrical rod wrapped in a dielectric circular pipe whose outer surface is enclosed by a helical conducting strip grating that is skewed along the axial direction is herein analyzed using the asymptotic strip boundary conditions along with classical vector potential analysis. Targeted for use as a cylindrical holographic antenna, the resultant field solutions facilitate the aperture integration of the equivalent cylindrical surface currents to obtain the radiated far fields. As each rod section of a certain skew angle exhibits a distinct modal attribute; this topology allows for the distribution of the cylindrical surface impedance via the effective refractive index to be modulated, as in gradient-index (GRIN) materials.

Orbital angular momentum (OAM) multiplexed holograms have attracted a great deal of attention recently due to their physically unbounded set of orthogonal helical modes. However, preserving the OAM property in each pixel hinders fine sampling of the target image in principle and requires a fundamental filtering aperture array in the detector plane. Here, we demonstrate the concept of metasurface-based vectorial holography with cylindrical vector beams (CVBs), whose unlimited polarization orders and unique polarization distributions can be used to boost information storage capacity.
