is a spore-forming ubiquitous bacterium notable as a food poisoning agent. Detection of spores using selective media is laborious and non-specific. Herein, the quantitative detection of spores was investigated with commercial antibodies and published aptamer sequences. Several detection reagents were screened for affinity to collagen-like protein A (BclA), an abundant exosporium glycoprotein. Sensitivity and selectivity toward spores were tested using immunoassays and multi-analyte profiling (xMAP). A recombinant antibody developed in llama against BclA protein showed spore selectivity and sensitivity between 10 and 10 spores/mL using xMAP. DNA aptamer sequences demonstrated sensitivity from 10 to 10 spores/mL and no cross-reaction to and . Selectivity for spores was also demonstrated in a mixture of several diverse microorganisms and within a food sample with no compromise of sensitivity. As proof of concept for multiplexed measurement of human pathogens, and three other microorganisms, , and , were simultaneously detected using xMAP. These data support the development of a rapid, sensitive, and selective system for quantitation of spores and multiplexed monitoring of human pathogens in complex matrices.

A rapid and specific liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method with a wide linear range was developed and validated for the simultaneous quantification of Vitamin K1 (VK1) trans- and cis- isomers in human plasma. Bovine serum albumin solution (15%) served as a surrogate matrix for preparing the calibrators to establish the quantitative curves. After liquid-liquid extraction, VK1 trans- and cis- isomers in plasma samples were separated on a ChromCore C30 column (15 cm × 4.

Illicit drug abuse poses a significant global threat to public health and social security, highlighting the urgent need for rapid, sensitive, and versatile detection technologies. To address the limitations of traditional chromatographic techniques-such as high costs and slow response times-and the drawbacks of conventional immunochromatographic sensors (ICS), including low sensitivity and non-intuitive signal outputs, a fluorescence-quenching ICS (FQICS) was developed. This sensor leverages fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between aggregation-induced emission fluorescent microspheres (AIEFMs) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs).

The prompt and accurate identification of pathogenic bacteria is crucial for mitigating the transmission of infections. Conventional detection methods face limitations, including lengthy processing, complex sample pretreatment, high instrumentation costs, and insufficient sensitivity for rapid on-site screening. To address these challenges, an aptamer (Apt)-sensor based on functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) was developed for detecting Escherichia coli.

The rapid advancements in the field of artificial intelligence have intensified the urgent need for low-power, high-speed artificial synaptic devices. Here, a near-infrared (NIR) artificial synaptic device is successfully realized based on pristine InGaAs nanowires (NWs), which achieves a paired-pulse facilitation (PPF) of up to 119%. Additionally, a postsynaptic current (PSC) in memory storage behavior has been implemented by applying different voltage pulses along with continuous illumination of 1064 nm NIR light due to the memristor characteristics of the device.

Proposed half a century ago, the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) axion explains the lack of charge and parity violation in the strong interactions and is a compelling candidate for cold dark matter. The last decade has seen the rapid improvement in the sensitivity and range of axion experiments, as well as developments in theory regarding consequences of axion dark matter. We review here the astrophysical searches and theoretical progress regarding the QCD axion.
