Article Abstract

African swine fever virus (ASFV) causes contagious hemorrhagic disease of pigs with high morbidity and mortality. To identify the molecular characteristics of ASFV strains circulating in Guangxi province, southern China, a total of 336 tissue samples collected from 336 domestic pigs that died as a result of severe hemorrhagic disease during 2019-2020 were tested for ASFV. Furthermore, 66 ASFV strains were genetically characterized by sequence analysis of the C-terminal region of () gene, the complete () gene, the variable region of () gene, the central variable region (CVR) of gene, the full gene, and the tandem repeat sequence (TRS) within intergenic region (IGR) between the and () genes. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the ASFV strains from Guangxi province belonged to genotypes I and II based on the () and () genes, and there were eight different tetrameric TRS variants based on the CVR of gene. Phylogenetic analysis of the () gene revealed that these ASFV strains belonged to serogroups 4 and 8. Eight of the 66 strains belonged to genotype I and serogroup 4, and showed deletion of whole gene. The sequence analysis of the IGR between the genes showed that IGR II and III variants were co-circulating in Guangxi province. The results indicated that ASFV strains circulating in Guangxi province during 2019-2020 outbreaks showed high genetic diversity, of which genotypes I and II, as well as serogroups 4 and 8, were simultaneously circulating in Guangxi province, and there existed wild-type and naturally gene-deleted strains in the field. This is the first detailed report on the molecular characterization of the ASFV strains circulating in southern China, and serogroup 4 in China.

Background: Pressure injuries are common, difficult to manage, and carry a high economic burden. They are challenging to physicians and a burden to society.

Case Report: An 89-year-old male, who had previously undergone internal fixation with screws and rods for a right intertrochanteric fracture, developed a deep circular open ulcer measuring 11 cm × 7.

Iron-cerium co-doped carbon dots (Fe,Ce-CDs) were synthesized by one-step hydrothermal method using tartaric acid and L-tryptophan as ligands. Fe,Ce-CDs shows excellent peroxidase-like (POD) activity and nitrite (NO) can promote the oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to its blue oxidation product (oxTMB) due to the formation of ∙NO free radical. NO further react with oxTMB to form a yellow color via diazotization resulting in the absorbance Change at 450 nm.

Purpose: This study aims to assess the outcomes of combining oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) with anterolateral screw fixation (ASF) and stress endplate augmentation (SEA) in comparison to OLIF combined with pedicle screw fixation (PSF) for the treatment of degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (DLSS) in patients with osteoporosis (OP).

Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of patients diagnosed with DLSS who underwent OLIF in conjunction with either SEA and ASF (SEA-ASF group) or PSF (PSF group). Clinical outcomes, including the visual analog scale (VAS) scores for lumbar and leg pain, as well as the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), were assessed at various postoperative intervals and compared to preoperative values.

Preparation of high-performance phenolic resin adhesives using demethylated lignin as substitutes for phenol.

Traditional phenolic resin adhesives involve the use of petrochemical-based phenol, raising environmental and health concerns. In this study, lignin was demethylated to substitute for phenol and prepare a high-lignin-content adhesive with perfect shear strength performance. The hydroxyl content of demethylated lignin can reach up to 6.
