Article Abstract

We propose an efficient inverse design approach for multifunctional optical elements based on adaptive deep diffractive neural networks (a-DNNs). Specifically, we introduce a-DNNs and design two-layer diffractive devices that can selectively focus incident radiation over two well-separated spectral bands at desired distances. We investigate focusing efficiencies at two wavelengths and achieve targeted spectral line shapes and spatial point-spread functions (PSFs) with optimal focusing efficiency. In particular, we demonstrate control of the spectral bandwidths at separate focal positions beyond the theoretical limit of single-lens devices with the same aperture size. Finally, we demonstrate devices that produce super-oscillatory focal spots at desired wavelengths. The proposed method is compatible with current diffractive optics and doublet metasurface technology for ultracompact multispectral imaging and lensless microscopy applications.

Importance: Antibiotics, steroids, and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are suspected to decrease the efficacy of immunotherapy.

Objective: To explore the association of comedications with overall survival (OS) in patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Design, Setting, And Participants: This nationwide retrospective cohort study used target trial emulations of patients newly diagnosed with NSCLC from January 2015 to December 2022, identified from the French national health care database.

Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated transformative potential for materials discovery in condensed matter systems, but their full utility requires both broader application scenarios and integration with ab initio crystal structure prediction (CSP), density functional theory (DFT) methods and domain knowledge to benefit future inverse material design. Here, we develop an integrated computational framework combining language model-guided materials screening with genetic algorithm (GA) and graph neural network (GNN)-based CSP methods to predict new photovoltaic material. This LLM + CSP + DFT approach successfully identifies a previously overlooked oxide material with unexpected photovoltaic potential.

Inspired by the rigid exoskeleton and elastic inner tissues of crustaceans, a bilayer gel integrating high-strength rigidity and soft cushioning with high interfacial adhesion (1060 ± 40 J m ) is developed via a stepwise solid-liquid phase crosslinking strategy. Herein, a prefrozen high-concentration polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) solution forms a solid-state structural framework, while a subsequently cast low-concentration PVA solution generates a flexible layer. Partial thawing of the frozen gel during casting triggers molecular chain interpenetration at the interface, synergistically enhanced by controlled molecular penetration, freeze-thaw cycles, and salt-induced crystallization.

Study Question: Do social determinants of health (SDoH) influence the age at menopause among women?

Summary Answer: In our study, adverse SDoH, particularly family low income-to-poverty ratio (PIR), low education level, and the marital status of being widowed, are associated with earlier age at menopause.

What Is Known Already: Some prior studies have considered certain SDoH variables (such as educational attainment and marital status) as potential factors influencing age at menopause, but systematic evidence clearly defining the relationship between multidimensional SDoH and menopausal age remains lacking.

Study Design Size Duration: This cross-sectional analysis included 6083 naturally menopausal women from 10 cycles (1999-2018) of the United States National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and excluded cases of surgical menopause.

Background: In catheter-based radiofrequency ablation (RFA), energy is delivered to heterogeneous thin-walled tissues to induce therapeutic heating. Variations in electrical and mechanical properties of tissue contents have a great effect on outcomes.

Purpose: The objective of this study is to develop models that replicate tissue heterogeneity and visualize ablation zones for effective evaluation and optimization.
