Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the body fat mass ratio on survival and prognosis in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer patients.
Methods: The study includes 200 patients who were diagnosed with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer between 2014 and 2018 and whose body fat mass percentage and body mass index (BMI) were determined using the Tanita Body Composition Analyzer during admission.
Results: All patients had advanced incurable non-small-cell lung cancer (30% had locally advanced disease, 70% were stage IV). In the univariate and multivariate analyses, age, gender, histopathological type, smoking history, comorbidities, weight loss in the last six months and body mass index had no statistically significant effect on survival ( > 0.05). However, the performance status ( = 0.008), metastatic status ( = 0.003) and body fat mass ratio ( = 0.01) were found to have a significant effect on overall survival (OS): the median OS was 16.4 mo, in patients with the BFM ratio ≤ 22% and 29.2 mo, in those with > 22% ( = 0.01).
Conclusion: In this study, it was found that the body fat mass ratio was an important prognostic factor in patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the gender-specific associations of skeletal muscle mass and fat mass with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and NAFLD-related liver fibrosis in two population-based studies.
Methods: Analyses were based on data from the MEGA (n = 238) and the MEIA study (n = 594) conducted between 2018 and 2023 in Augsburg, Germany. Bioelectrical impedance analysis was used to evaluate relative skeletal muscle mass (rSM) and SM index (SMI) as well as relative fat mass (rFM) and FM index (FMI); furthermore, the fat-to-muscle ratio was built.

The stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a difficulty in urology and current sub-urethral sling treatments are associated with inflamation and recurrence. In this study, we developed a novel tissue-engineered sling with myogenic induced adiposederived stem cells (MI-ADSCs) sheets induced by 5-Aza and combined with electrospun scaffolds of silk fibroin and poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (SF/PLGA) for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence. MI-ADSCs increased α-SMA, MyoD and Desmin the mRNA and protein expression.
