The search of novel quasi-1D materials is one of the important aspects in the field of material science. Toroidal moment, the order parameter of ferrotoroidic order, can be generated by a head-to-tail configuration of magnetic moment. It has been theoretically proposed that 1D dimerized and antiferromagnetic (AFM)-like spin chain hosts ferrotoroidicity and has the toroidal moment composed of only two antiparallel spins. Here, the authors report a ferrotoroidic candidate of Ba Cr S with such a theoretical model of spin chain. The structure consists of unique dimerized face-sharing CrS octahedral chains along the c axis. An AFM-like ordering at ≈10 K breaks both space- and time-reversal symmetries and the magnetic point group of mm'2'allows three ferroic orders in Ba Cr S : (anti)ferromagnetic, ferroelectric, and ferrotoroidic orders. Their investigation reveals that Ba Cr S is a rare ferrotoroid ic candidate with quasi 1D spin chain, which can be considered as a starting point for the further exploration of the physics and applications of ferrotoroidicity.

Traditionally, when processing DNA samples, a multiple-step procedure is followed; after a sample has been collected, DNA is then extracted and quantified before a profile is generated. During the process, valuable DNA can be lost and/or consumed. When processing reference samples, where DNA is usually in abundance, DNA loss may not be a concern for the analysts.

Quasi-one-dimensional magnets can host an ordered longitudinal spin-density wave state (LSDW) in magnetic field at low temperature, when longitudinal correlations are strengthened by Ising anisotropies. In the S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet YbAlO_{3} this happens via Ising-like interchain interactions. Here, we report the first experimental observation of magnetization plateaux at 1/5 and 1/3 of the saturation value via thermal transport and magnetostriction measurements in YbAlO_{3}.

Neutral iron(III) and iron(II) complexes based on the pyruvic acid thiosemicarbazone (Hthpy) ligand [Fe(Hthpy)(thpy)] (1) and [Fe(Hthpy)] (2) were synthesized, and deeper insights into magneto-structural correlation were gained by FT-IR spectroscopy, single crystal X-ray crystallography, dc magnetic characterization, Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, and DFT calculations. The X-ray structures of complex 1 were established for the HS ( = 5/2) state at 295 K and the LS ( = 1/2) state at 150 K. The crystal packing of 1 at these temperatures corresponds to the triclinic 1̄ symmetry and contains pairs of [Fe(Hthpy)(thpy)] complexes interconnected by a shortened S⋯S contact.

Background: The hippocampus plays a critical role in psychosis, with reduced volume observed across the psychosis continuum. These structural changes are associated with cognitive deficits, symptom severity, and increased risk of psychosis progression. Elevated hippocampal perfusion and glutamate/GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) imbalance further suggest metabolic dysregulation as a key mechanism.

Background: Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) stands among the most toxic naturally occurring substances, with its acute toxicity characterized by the induction of acute hepatic necrosis, hemorrhage, and even fatal outcomes, thereby posing a profound threat to human health. Contamination of AFB1 in food commodities can arise at multiple stages throughout the production cycle, including cultivation, storage, and processing. This contamination cascade permeates the entire food supply chain, encompassing primary agricultural products as well as a diverse range of processed food items.
