Purpose: Cortisol, a steroid hormone, plays an essential role in metabolic processes of diabetes mellitus. This study for the first time evaluated the association of serum cortisol with spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT)-based cross-sectional and topographic parameters with severity of diabetic retinopathy (DR).
Methods: A tertiary care center-based preliminary study was undertaken. Fourteen consecutive cases of DR and fifteen healthy controls were included. Cases were graded according to ETDRS classification: non-proliferative DR (NPDR, n = 8) and proliferative DR (PDR, n = 6). All study subjects underwent complete ophthalmological evaluation. Serum cortisol was analyzed using chemiluminescence microparticle assay method. Central subfield thickness (CST), cube average thickness (CAT), cube volume (CV), retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, disorganization of inner retinal layers (DRIL), grade of retinal photoreceptor ellipsoid zone (EZ) disruption and grade of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) alterations were evaluated using SD-OCT. Statistical analysis was done using ANOVA and Pearson's correlation analysis.
Results: Mean serum cortisol levels (µg/dL) were NPDR = 11.59 ± 0.42, PDR = 14.50 ± 0.26 and controls = 8.22 ± 0.77. With increasing severity of DR, mean CST, CAT, CV showed positive correlation, whereas mean RNFL thickness showed negative correlation with serum cortisol levels (p < 0.01). DRIL, EZ disruption and RPE alterations showed positive correlation with serum cortisol levels (p < 0.001).
Conclusion: Serum cortisol levels are significantly associated with severity of DR and correlate positively with CST, CAT, CV, DRIL, EZ disruption and RPE alterations and negatively with RNFL thickness.

Objective: To describe the normative serum cortisol levels during 25-29 weeks of POG and the association of maternal, psychological, and social factors on serum cortisol in the second and third trimesters in a cohort of pregnant women.
Methods: All eligible pregnant women registered in the maternal care program in Anuradhapura district, Sri Lanka, from July to September 2019 were invited to the Rajarata Pregnancy Cohort (RaPCo). An interviewer-administered questionnaire-based symptom analysis and clinical assessment were conducted at baseline in the first trimester and at follow-up from 25 to 29 weeks POG.

Purpose: To investigated the effect of pediatric massage combined with comprehensive management on height improvement in children with short stature.
Patients And Methods: This retrospective analysis included medical records of 80 children diagnosed with short stature, who received treatment at Wuhu Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine between April 2022 and April 2023. According to the recorded treatment modalities, patients were divided into two groups: the control group received standard comprehensive management (including psychological health guidance, diet, sleep, exercise), while the massage group received additional pediatric syndrome-based massage therapy alongside comprehensive treatment.

Introduction: Glucocorticoid-induced adrenal insufficiency (AI) is underestimated and under-reported in children with nephrotic syndrome (NS). This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of AI in children with steroid-sensitive NS, defined by serum cortisol level <18 mcg/dL 30 minutes after low-dose adrenocorticotropin stimulation test (LDST) and/or baseline (8 AM) serum cortisol level <5 mcg/dL, 4-12 weeks after stopping steroid therapy.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 73 children with steroid-sensitive NS, in remission and off steroids for 4-12 weeks, were enrolled from the Paediatrics Department at a tertiary care hospital.

Heat stress poses a major threat to dairy cattle productivity, particularly in high-producing Holstein cows. To identify robust biomarkers of thermotolerance, we employed an integrative strategy combining physiological phenotyping, blood metabolite profiling, and transcriptomic analysis. A total of 120 lactating Holstein cows were evaluated under natural summer heat conditions using rectal temperature, respiratory rate, salivation index, serum HSP70, cortisol, potassium levels, and milk production.

An advanced electrochemical immunosensor platform was designed for the precise quantification of cortisol. The sensor design integrates graphene oxide-silicon carbide (GO-SiC) nanocomposites onto a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Denatured bovine serum albumin (d-BSA) and an anti-cortisol antibody were immobilized on the GO-SiC/GCE surface as part of the immunosensor's design.
