Article Abstract

The induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology has offered an unprecedented opportunity for disease modelling and drug discovery. Here we used non-integrating Sendai viral method and derived iPSCs from three young healthy Caucasian donors. All iPSCs expressed pluripotency markers highly and could be differentiated into three germ lineages. They possess normal karyotype which was confirmed by whole genome SNP array. The availability of the healthy control iPSCs offers an opportunity for phenotypic comparison and genome editing for a variety of diseases.

Environmental Stresses Constrain Soil Microbial Community Functions by Regulating Deterministic Assembly and Niche Width.

Mol Ecol

Increasing evidence indicates that the loss of soil microbial α-diversity triggered by environmental stress negatively impacts microbial functions; however, the effects of microbial α-diversity on community functions under environmental stress are poorly understood. Here, we investigated the changes in bacterial and fungal α- diversity along gradients of five natural stressors (temperature, precipitation, plant diversity, soil organic C and pH) across 45 grasslands in China and evaluated their connection with microbial functional traits. By quantifying the five environmental stresses into an integrated stress index, we found that the bacterial and fungal α-diversity declined under high environmental stress across three soil layers (0-20 cm, 20-40 cm and 40-60 cm).

Background: The increasing prevalence of sports injuries among young female volleyball players, driven by biomechanical and hormonal factors, necessitates effective prevention strategies. Screening tools like the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT) often show inconsistent predictive validity for injury risk in this population. This study investigates associations between FMS, SEBT, agility, and muscle strength with injury risk in young female volleyball players to refine prediction models and inform targeted interventions.

Assessing thyroid peroxidase antibodies in Emirati medical students: a cross-sectional pilot study.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

September 2025

Department of Internal Medicine, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University, Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.

Introduction: Anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO-Ab) are detectable in almost all patients with autoimmune thyroid disease or Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) but may also be present in healthy individuals. HT affects women to a greater extent than men and can lead to overt hypothyroidism, which may increase the risk of miscarriage. There are no local data available on the prevalence of TPO-Ab among healthy women in the United Arab Emirates.

Background: The benefits of phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors in the treatment of sexual dysfunction and psychopathology of schizophrenia remain unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to address the above clinical question.

Methods: Our primary outcome includes erectile dysfunction (ED) assessed using standardized questionnaires.

Aims: Psychological resilience refers to an individual's capacity to adapt to adverse events. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a crucial role in regulating post-transcriptional processes, while small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) act as transport vehicles. This study aimed to employ genome-wide profiling to identify and validate differences in the expression of resilience-associated sEV-miRNAs between low resilience (LR) and high resilience (HR) in young adults.
