Understanding of normal fetal organ development is crucial for the evaluation of the pathogenesis of congenital anomalies. Various techniques have been used to generate imaging of fetal rat organogenesis, such as histological dissection with 3-dimensional reconstruction and scanning electron microscopy. However, these techniques did not imply quantitative measurements of developing organs (volumes, surface areas of organs). Furthermore, a partial or total destruction of the embryos prior to analysis was inevitable. Recently, micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) has been established as a novel tool to investigate embryonic development in non-dissected embryos of rodents. In this study, we used the micro-CT technique to generate 4D datasets of rat embryos aged between embryonic day 15-22 and newborns. Lungs, hearts, diaphragms, and livers were digitally segmented in order to measure organ volumes and analyze organ development as well as generate high-resolution 3D images. These data provide objective values compiling a 4D atlas of pulmonary, cardiac, diaphragmatic, and hepatic development in the fetal rat.

Background: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a gastrointestinal emergency in premature neonates. NEC is mediated by toll-like receptor-4 (TLR-4) and associated with lung injury. Previously, we showed that prenatal heparin-binding epidermal growth factor (HB-EGF) administration decreases the incidence of intestinal injury in a rat model of NEC.

Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) is a label-free technique that enables the visualization of the spatial distribution of thousands of ions within biosamples. Data denoising is the computational strategy aimed at enhancing the MSI data quality, providing an effective alternative to experimental methods. However, due to the complex noise pattern inherent in MSI data and the difficulty in obtaining ground truth from noise-free data, achieving reliable denoised images remains challenging.

Severe scarring is an inevitable consequence of large full-thickness skin wounds, often leading to long-term complications that affect patients' well-being and necessitate extended medical interventions. While autologous split-thickness skin grafts remain the clinical standard for wound treatment, they frequently result in contractures, excessive scarring, and the need for additional corrective procedures. To address these challenges, bioengineered skin substitutes capable of promoting efficient healing while reducing complications are highly desirable.

Preclinical PET studies offer the opportunity to elucidate molecular mechanisms underlying early neurodevelopment with minimal invasiveness. We demonstrated the feasibility of fetal brain PET in four pregnant rats ( = 42 fetuses). [F]FDG uptake in rat fetuses was readily visualized by PET imaging.

Objectives: To investigate the impact of prenatal fear stress on placental amino acid transport and emotion and cognition development in offspring rats.
Methods: Thirty pregnant Wistar rats were randomized equally into control and fear stress (induced using an observational foot shock model) groups. In each group, placental and serum samples were collected from 6 dams on gestational day 20, and the remaining rats delivered naturally and the offspring rats were raised under the same conditions until 8 weeks of age.
