Spin glasses are a highly complex magnetic state of matter intricately linked to spin frustration and structural disorder. They exhibit no long-range order and exude aging phenomena, distinguishing them from quantum spin liquids. We report a previously unknown type of spin glass state, the spin-Q glass, observable in bulk-like crystalline metallic neodymium thick films. Using spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy combined with ab initio calculations and atomistic spin-dynamics simulations, we visualized the variations in atomic-scale noncolinear order and its response to magnetic field and temperature. We quantified the aging phenomena relating the glassiness to crystalline symmetry and the energy landscape. This result not only resolves the long-standing debate of the magnetism of neodymium, but also suggests that glassiness may arise in other magnetic solids lacking extrinsic disorder.

Layered van der Waals (vdW) materials, characterized by their interlayer vdW gaps, offer exceptional tunability of magnetic properties via intercalation chemistry. A wide range of magnetic behaviors have been observed in nonmagnetic transition-metal dichalcogenides intercalated with magnetic atoms. Beyond the incorporation of magnetic ions, we propose the controlled alkali-ion intercalation of intrinsic vdW magnets as a strategy to probe and manipulate spin populations and exchange interactions within individual magnetic layers.

Purpose: Presenting a technique to quantify the transverse relaxation time T, which is associated with the diffusion of water molecules through the internal magnetic field gradients of the lung in-vivo.
Methods: A Half-Fourier-Acquired Single-shot Turbo spin-Echo (HASTE) pulse sequence with Hahn-echo preparation was implemented and used for image acquisition. Quantification of T was performed by acquiring multiple images with identical TE, but with a different number of refocusing pulses between excitation and signal acquisition.

Carbon-encapsulated γ-FeO nanoparticles (NPs) with emerging proximity effects were synthesized using a single-step solid-state pyrolysis at 750 °C. The morphology and size distribution of the NPs were investigated using high-resolution transmission and scanning electron microscopies revealing that the γ-FeO NPs, with an average diameter of 9 nm, are embedded in the amorphous porous carbon matrix. In addition, other trace phases (FeC and metallic-Fe) were also detected through X-ray absorption spectroscopy and Mössbauer spectrometry.

In this work, a sol-gel spin coating method was applied to obtain ZnO and ZnO:Ga thin films on a glass and ITO-coated glass substrate. Their structural, optical, and electrical properties were investigated with respect to their dependence on the different substrates, the number of layers (two and four), and the annealing temperature (300 and 400 °C). X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns showed a hexagonal structure corresponding to the wurtzite phase for ZnO and ZnO:Ga films.

Monoclinic layered Li(CoNiCuMgZn)SbO and Na(CoNiCuMgZn)SbO (AQSbO for short) were prepared by solid-state reactions. The X-ray Rietveld refinement of both materials confirms their structural analogy with their monocation counterparts (space group 2/), random mixing of the five cations and their honeycomb ordering with Sb(5+). The Li compound shows considerable Li/Q site inversion, much larger than that in LiCuSbO.
