Background: Major depressive disorder (MDD), anxiety disorders, and self-harm are substantial contributors to the global disease burden, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: We used Global Burden of Diseases Study (GBD) 2021 to estimate global, regional, and national prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for MDD, anxiety disorders, and self-harm from 1990 to 2021. Annual percentage changes were calculated for pre-pandemic (1990-2019) and pandemic (2019-2021) periods.

Introduction: Acute kidney disease (AKD) is defined as functional and/or structural abnormalities of kidneys with health implications and a duration of ≤90 days. This study aimed to evaluate AKD as a more appropriate approach to these conditions for which we used a cohort of COVID-19 patients in whom kidney impairment is expressed by proteinuria and/or loss of function.
Methods: Observational, prospective, longitudinal, multinational cohort study conducted across five Latin American countries.

Objective: The objective of this study is to summarize the state of knowledge on the economic burden and cost of illness due to influenza, SARS-CoV-2, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and other respiratory viruses (ORV) in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
Methods: We performed a scoping review across three databases (PubMed-Medline, Scielo, and Embase) without time restriction, including economic burden and cost-of-illness studies. We extracted and analyzed data on publication year, population, study type, perspective, costing techniques, and settings.

Studies on the impact of health shocks in (re)shaping forest management institutions exist, albeit fragmented. Similarly, significant knowledge gaps exist regarding conceptualizing health shocks, the mechanisms and outcomes of forest-linked institutional change, and the methods used so far. We review regional variations in conceptualizing forest management institutions and institutional change that are linked to health shocks.

Global measures and restrictions implemented to control the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact and created challenges in regular business, commerce, and scientific activities, including biobank operations. The challenges were exacerbated by a dependence on imported supplies and reagents from countries such as the United States, China, and within Europe, as well as restrictions on exporting biological samples. The pandemic has highlighted the pressing need for regional autonomy in biobanking activities.
