Near infrared (NIR) luminescent metal complexes are promising probes in bioimaging and biosensing, however they generally suffer from oxygen interference arising from heavy metal effects. We designed new tetradentate macrocyclic benzitripyrrin (C^N^N^N) ligands by combination of M-C bond formation and reducing the π-conjugation to achieve NIR fluorescent Pd complexes (700-1000 nm) with quantum yields up to 14%. To understand the origin of NIR fluorescence, detailed analyses by density functional theory/time-dependent density functional theory (DFT/TDDFT) calculations together with femtosecond and nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopies suggest that M-C bond formation indeed leads to destabilization of the d-d excited state and less effective quenching of emission; and importantly, small spin-orbital coupling (SOC) and the large singlet-triplet energy gap are the primary causes of the non-population of triplet states. Comparison of Pd and Pt analogues shows that the non-radiative channel of the out-plane vibration of the tripyrrin plane effectively quenches the fluorescence of the Pt complex but not the Pd congener. We also demonstrate the proof-of-concept applications of Pd complexes ( and ) encapsulated in silica nanoparticles, in both and bioimaging experiments without oxygen interference. Moreover, pH-induced reversible switching of NIR fluorescence was achieved even intracellularly using the Pd complex (), which shows the potential to further develop perspective stimuli-responsive NIR materials.

This study aimed to create multifunctional nanoparticles (NPs), specifically AS1411@MPDA-Len-Cy5.5 (AMLC), for the purpose of developing effective strategies for treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through targeted therapy and photothermal therapy (PTT). The study involved synthesizing mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA)-NPs, loading lenvatinib (Len) and Cy5.

Background and objectives With the continuous presence of microflora, saliva, and frequent intake of coloured food, the colour stability of any aesthetic material may become compromised. Hence, the present study was conducted to evaluate the influence of tea, coffee, and turmeric solutions on the colour stability of commercially available heat-cured and autopolymerizing denture base acrylic resins as well as a soft lining material. Methods Twenty-four rectangular samples measuring 20 mm × 15 mm × 2 mm were prepared for each type of test material.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a swiftly advancing condition that may result in kidney failure and pose a significant threat to life. Therefore, diagnosis of AKI is crucial for treating AKI and preventing the worsening of the condition. We developed a near-infrared fluorescent probe, CyO@CD-Ser, designed for the diagnosis of AKI.

The dynamic monitoring of cell death processes remains a significant challenge due to the scarcity of highly sensitive molecular tools. In this study, two hemicyanine-based probes (5a-5b) with D-π-A structures were developed for organelle-specific viscosity monitoring. Both probes exhibited correlation with the Förster-Hoffmann viscosity-dependent relationship (R > 0.

Dynamic micro/nano-structured surfaces play pivotal roles in biological systems and engineering applications. Despite considerable progress has been made in fabricating precisely ordered architectures, achieving controlled motion in top-down fabricated structures remain a formidable challenge. Here, we introduce an advanced dynamic micron-nano optical platform featuring hierarchical microscale wrinkles integrated with ordered nanoscale arrays.
