Bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS) has recently been spotlighted for its unique characteristics of absorbing into blood vessels and eventually disappearing. Although intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is the most common guiding tool for stent deployment, the echogenicity of BVS struts has changed as the center of stent lumen and scanning rotation is not concentric, which may cause a critical erroneous measurement in practice. This study investigated the physical conditions for dimming the stent brightness in IVUS images using a finite-difference method (FDM) to numerically solve acoustic wave propagation through nonhomogeneous medium. The dimmed brightness is caused by an angled rectangular cross section of a strut and its similar acoustic impedance with water. Imaging frequency is not a major cause. However, the angle between the acoustic beam and the BVS surface is the major cause of the dimmed brightness. As a solution, an approach using a frequency compounding method with signal polarity comparator was proposed to recover the reduced brightness without sacrificing spatial resolutions. Based on the simulation study, the signal level from BVS can be attenuated down by 17 dB when the angle between the acoustic beamline and the surface of BVS is more than 45°. With the proposed frequency compounding approach, the reduced signal can be recovered by 6 dB. In the experimental BVS IVUS imaging, strut brightness was reduced by 18 dB with an angled strut position and recovered by 5 dB with the proposed frequency compounding method. A pig coronary was imaged to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method.

This study presents a medico-legal case study of an infant who died as a result of intestinal volvulus, a rare but severe complication secondary to the ingestion of multiple magnets and button batteries. The mutual attraction of magnets through adjacent intestinal loops, compounded by the corrosive effects of button batteries, can precipitate rapid and irreversible damage to the gastrointestinal wall. A comprehensive review of the literature on documented pediatric cases involving the ingestion of magnets and button batteries was undertaken to compare the spectrum and frequency of complications.

Introduction: Despite WHO's recommendations and the 2023-2030 Tuberculosis (TB) action plan, uptake of TB preventive treatment (TPT) remains suboptimal. In this paper, we use two countries of the WHO Europe Region, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia, that are at different stages of implementation of TB prevention policies, as a case study to examine health system barriers and facilitators to TPT scale-up.
Methods: In this case study, we used methods of qualitative research-interviews with three stakeholder groups: health service providers and National TB Programme staff; civil society organisations and international partners or donors.

Background: Since 7 October 2023, Gazan children have been enduring a catastrophic humanitarian crisis marked by severe malnutrition, rampant disease, and overwhelming psychological distress as a result of the Israeli deliberate policies that restrict access to food and essential services, compounded by the systematic destruction of agricultural, healthcare, and water infrastructure under a crippling blockade.
Aims: This study aims to document and analyze the multifaceted impacts of conflict-induced deprivation on the health and development of these vulnerable children, highlighting how state policies exacerbate food insecurity and hinder effective healthcare delivery.
Methods: Employing a qualitative approach, thirty semi-structured interviews were conducted with displaced Gazans in Rafah camps; the data, gathered in Arabic and transcribed for analysis, were examined using thematic content analysis to identify recurring themes related to malnutrition, disease outbreaks, unsafe living conditions, weakened immune systems, and limited healthcare access.
