We aimed to evaluate the treatment outcome of primary and postoperative bimodal radiotherapy (RT) including intensity modulated photon radiotherapy (IMRT) and carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT) for sinonasal adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) patients. Medical records of 227 consecutive patients who received either a primary ( = 90, 40%) or postoperative ( = 137, 60%; R2, = 86, 63%) IMRT with doses between 48 and 56 Gy in 1.8 or 2 Gy fractions and active raster-scanning carbon ion boost with 18 to 24 Gy (RBE, relative biological effectiveness) in 3 Gy (RBE) fractions between 2009 and 2019 up to a median total dose of 80 Gy (EQD2, equivalent dose in 2 Gy single dose fractions, range 71-80 Gy) were reviewed. : Median follow-up was 50 months. In univariate and multivariate analysis, no significant difference in local control (LC) could be shown between the two treatment groups (). Corresponding 3-year LC rates were 79% for primary bimodal RT and 82% for postoperative bimodal RT, respectively. T4 stage () and solid histology () were identified as independent prognostic factors for decreased LC. Significant worse long-term treatment tolerance was observed for postoperatively irradiated patients with 17% vs. 6% late grade 3 toxicity (). Primary radiotherapy including IMRT and carbon ion boost for dose-escalation results in adequate LC with less long-term grade 3 toxicity compared to postoperative bimodal radiotherapy in sinonasal ACC patients. The high rate of macroscopic tumor disease in the postoperative group makes the interpretation of the beneficial results in LC for primary RT difficult.

Developing solid electrolytes with high ionic conductivity, a high voltage window, low flammability, and excellent interface compatibilities with both the anode and cathode for lithium-metal batteries is still a great challenge but highly desirable. Herein, we achieve this target through an in situ copolymerization of vinyl ethylene carbonate (VEC) together with acrylonitrile (AN) under fitting ratios inside a porous polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber membrane doped with flame-retardant decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE) molecules. The received fiber-reinforced polycarbonate-based composite electrolyte with an ultrathin thickness of 13 μm exhibits good internal interfacial compatibility because of the same AN structure and superior flame-retardant performance due to the doped DBDPE molecules.

Background: Bacillus thuringiensis Cry toxins are well known for their insecticidal properties, primarily through the formation of ion-leakage pores via α4-α5 hairpins. His178 in helix 4 of the Cry4Aa mosquito-active toxin has been suggested to play a crucial role in its biotoxicity.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the functional importance of Cry4Aa-His178 through experimental and computational analyses.

Polyesters, with their tunable chemical structures and environmental sustainability, have drawn growing attention as solid polymer electrolytes for next-generation solid-state lithium metal batteries (SSLMBs). Through a comprehensive experimental and theoretical study involving the systematic variation of carbon chain lengths in the flexible (diol) and coordinating (diacid) segments, along with selective fluorination at distinct positions along the polymer backbone, 18 types of polyester are fabricated and demonstrate that fluorination at the coordinating segment significantly enhances ionic conductivity by suppressing crystallinity. In contrast, fluorination at the flexible segment reduces ionic migration barriers by providing more homogeneous coordinating sites, thereby improving the lithium-ion transference number, despite increasing chain rigidity and a reduction in overall ionic conductivity.

This study evaluated the chemical profile of toothpastes (TPs) and mouthrinses (MRs) and their effects on tooth enamel ultrastructure, and the viability of human dental pulp fibroblasts (hDPF). Four TPs and MRs containing different remineralizing agents (arginine, potassium nitrate, pro arginine, and stannous chloride) were analyzed for pH, titratable acidity (TA), and ion concentrations (Ca, K, Na). Enamel ultrastructure was evaluated using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
