At present, whether α-adrenoceptors in the prelimbic cortex (PrL) are involved in Parkinson's disease-related anxiety is unclear. We examined the effects of PrL α-adrenoceptors on anxiety-like behaviors in rats with unilateral 6-hydroxydopamine lesions of the medial forebrain bundle. Compared to the sham operation, the lesion induced anxiety-like responses as measured by the open field test and elevated plus-maze test. Intra-PrL injection of the α-adrenoceptor agonist clonidine (1.25, 2.5 or 5 μg/rat) produced anxiolytic effects in sham-operated and lesioned rats. Furthermore, intra-PrL injection of the α-adrenoceptor antagonist idazoxan (1, 2 or 4 μg/rat) induced anxiogenic effects in two groups of rats. The effective doses produced by clonidine and idazoxan in lesioned rats were higher than those in sham-operated rats. Neurochemical results showed that intra-PrL injection of clonidine (5 μg/rat) or idazoxan (4 μg/rat) decreased or increased dopamine (DA) and noradrenaline (NA) and serotonin (5-HT) levels in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and amygdala in sham-operated and lesioned rats, respectively. These results suggest that α-adrenoceptors in the PrL are involved in the regulation of anxiety-like behaviors, which is attributable to changes in DA, NA and 5-HT levels in the mPFC and amygdala after activation and blockade of α-adrenoceptors.

Background: Chronic constriction injury (CCI) of the sciatic nerve induces neuropathic pain, inflammation, oxidative stress, and neurodegenerative changes, impairing sensory and emotional function. While curcumin is well recognized for its anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties, its therapeutic use is limited by poor bioavailability. Curcumin liposomal nanoparticles (CLNs) offer improved delivery and stability.

Social hierarchies are central to the organizational structure of group-living species, shaping individual physiology, behavior, and social interactions. Dopaminergic (DA) systems, particularly within the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and dorsal raphe nucleus (DR), have been linked to motivation and competitive behaviors, yet their region-specific contributions to social dominance remain insufficiently defined. This study investigated the role of VTA and DR DA neurons in regulating social dominance in sexually naïve male C57BL/6J mice.

Pollution can have lasting effects beyond the exposure period, potentially impacting multiple generations. Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants are widespread, including in oceans, yet their multigenerational impacts remain poorly understood. We investigated whether BDE-99, a ubiquitous PBDE, induces neurobehavioral and molecular effects across generations in the fish .

Purpose: The rapid onset of anxiolytic drugs without cognitive or motor impairments remains an unmet need. This study evaluated the acute anxiolytic effects of Salvia heldreichiana essential oil in rats, measuring anxiety-related behaviors, hippocampal levels of serotonin, noradrenaline, gamma-aminobutyric acid GABA, and serum cortisol.
Method: Forty-eight male Wistar albino rats were divided into two experiments.

Nr4a2 (Nurr1) is well known to be vital for midbrain dopaminergic neurons. Recent single-cell RNA analyses reveal that Nr4a2 is expressed in lateral cerebral regions, within neurons named L4/L5/L6 IT Car3. These neurons have attracted intense attention for the molecular mechanisms underlying their development and functions.
