Four complexes, namely, [Ln(L2)(NO)]. 2CHOH (Ln = Tb (1), Dy (2), Ho (3), Er (4), and L2 = (E)-2-methoxy-6-(((pyridin-2-ylmethyl)imino)methyl)phenol), were obtained by reacting (E)-2-((3-methoxy-2-oxidobenzylidene)amino)ethanesulfonate (L1), Ln(NO)·6HO, and 2-aminomethylpyridine at room temperature under solvothermal conditions in methanol for 12 h. The new Schiff base L2 was generated in situ based on the organic ligand L1 and 2-aminomethylpyridine through Schiff base exchange reaction by using lanthanide salts as inductor. A combination of crystallography and mass spectrometry was performed to track the exchange reaction, and the underlying mechanism accompanied by the complex assembly process was clearly presented. The multistep formation mechanism of the above dinuclear complex was also proposed, i.e., [L1] → Dy[L1]/[L2] → Dy[L2] → Dy[L2] → Dy[L2]. Luminescence test of 1 showed that it had extremely high selectivity to dichloromethane (CHCl). Therefore, we established a quick, simple, and efficient method of detecting CHCl that enabled strong-luminescence observation with the naked eye. Tests for small amounts of CHCl in water further indicated the potential of 1 as a test strip for CHCl fluorescence detection in water samples. Alternating-current magnetic susceptibility studies indicated the field-induced single-molecule magnet behavior of 2.

Ultra-sensitive pH-responsive drug delivery system designed to operate within the slightly acidic microenvironment of tumors are highly desired for hydrogel applications in cancer therapy. In this study, 4-Formylbenzoic acid modified polyvinyl alcohol (PVA-FBA, PF) was synthesized and utilized as a carrier for encapsulating the anticancer drug Doxorubicin (Dox). This was subsequently crosslinked with polyethylenimine (PEI) via benzoic-imine bond to form drug-loaded PVA-FBA/PEI hydrogel (D-PFP).

Herein, we present a simple and novel method to prepare soybean protein isolate (SPI)-based hydrogels with good mechanical characteristics. First, SPI/DSA hydrogels were prepared using SPI and different M/G ratios (1:2, 1:1, and 2:1) of dialdehyde sodium alginate (DSA). Then, the hydrogels were immersed in CaCl2 solution to form SPI/DSA@Ca double network hydrogels.

One of the most significant problems facing the scientific community in the 21st century is diabetes mellitus. There is an urgent need to create new powerful compounds that can fight this terrible disease because the number of instances of diabetes and drug-resistant diabetes is rising. We have synthesized a novel series of thiazole-derived thiadiazole-based Schiff base derivatives (1-10) in an effort to identify potential antidiabetic agents.

We report the synthesis and characterization of a new Schiff base ligand (HL), derived from 2-picolylamine and 2-hydroxy-3-methoxy-5-methylbenzaldehyde. Its reaction with Ni(NO)·6HO and Ln(NO)·HO (Ln = Gd, Tb, Dy) in the presence of triethylamine affords a carbonato-bridged family of heterobimetallic NiLn complexes: [NiLn(L)(L')(μ-CO)(NO)]·MeOH·HO (). During the complexation reaction, ligand HL undergoes an oxidation, followed by C-C coupling to generate a secondary ligand (HL').

The production of HO via the two-electron pathway of ORR has been widely studied. We pioneered the use of a Zn-Schiff base conductive polymer nanorod as an electrocatalyst for HO production, leveraging the Schiff base's ability to enhance electron transfer and catalytic efficiency. This novel catalyst achieved an unprecedented >98% HO selectivity with >90% stability after 1000 h.
